What to do when your Dyson Doesn't Suck like it used to??

:rotfl: I remember reading a trade article a while back, I think it said that at Dyson's peak 60% of households had a Dyson but only 1 in 5 would replace it with another Dyson!0 -
I've got a Dyson animal - had it for many years. Maybe mine is unusual, but it's still going as new. No loss in suction despite me using it for cleaning up everything including building dust, cement dust, house dust, plant leaves, fluffy cat fur, and even the outside front path!!! The only thing that went wrong is the motor at xmas after many years of service. Simply stopped working. So I bought another dyson motor via ebay for not very much. I dismantled the dyson - it comes apart very easily and in a small number of bits. Threw the lot (minus the electrics which come out in one 'section') in the bath, washed it around, dried it out, fitted the new motor and it's back working like new. Can't fault it at all.
I regularly wash out both filters (HEPA and foam) as dust/dirt buildup there can affect it.
Maybe am just lucky.0 -
I must echo what Ephemera said... check for partial obstructions in hoseways etc.
I did just that recently, as after 2 years of hard use our Dyson wasn't performing as well as it was.
Where the fixed hose went around a corner, there was a biro jammed, which had collected a number of paperclips, wood shavings, etc.
I'm surprised it worked at all, but good as new now... and didn't cost a thing.
I had an obstruction too. I phoned their helpline and the chap talked me through where to check. On mine (DC14) it involved taking off the white bits at the back and checking each bit.Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.0 -
Got an original DC01 - it still works perfectly and must be 10 years old I guess.
Do have to unblock them occasionally though. Other than that and filters, I bought a new "wand" last year as the original one had broken, which was my fault for dropping the vacuum down a couple of stairs!!0 -
