What to do when your Dyson Doesn't Suck like it used to??

Hi all anyone had problems whith their Dyson not sucking? I have a DC15 Animal, great when it was brand new, now just under two years old, and has very lttle suction. The filters have been cleaned out regularly and the cyclone, has anyone had a service on theirs and is it worht it? seems poor for a machine thats not even 2 years old yet. Any thougths or help much appreciated, thanks

Buy a Henry vacuum (or a Hetty) - I've spent a fortune on Dyson's over the years and have finally realised that I don't like them (I love my pink Hetty) - I have to buy bags for her, but she's 2 years old and still working her little socks off.

    try the dyson website:

    http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/help.asp

choose your model and it will guide you through what to check.
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

I agree dyson are over rated if you ask me, we have spent loads on them in the past and they always end up the same after a year or 2 (in the skip)

Just get a good cheap one from a brand over then dyson.

I agree Dyson are over rated. The 2 major problems I believe are i) That the cyclone system is based on a commercial dust extraction design which is fine for dust but 90% of domestic rubbish collected by vacuum cleaners in the home is fibres and the cyclone system is not very good at handling fibres. ii) Build quality has never really been very good and now production has been moved to China I believe there is now less quality control.

Look at Miele vacuum cleaners these are far more robust and are designed for 20 years life.

Hi there, although your filters might be fine there could be a blockage somewhere else - a neighbour once borrowed mine and it came back jammed solid! You will need to check all the path of the air from the head to the collection chamber...you may be surprised what you find. A bit of stiff wire can help check the bits you can't see...

    Good luck!

I had three Dysons before I saw the light many years ago. They are OK for a while and then just awful. I changed to a Henry around six years ago and the original is still doing sterling service.

I replaced my DC05 with a Miele TT5000 Cat and Dog. Expensive but way ahead of the Dyson in cleaning performance.

I must echo what Ephemera said... check for partial obstructions in hoseways etc.

I did just that recently, as after 2 years of hard use our Dyson wasn't performing as well as it was.

Where the fixed hose went around a corner, there was a biro jammed, which had collected a number of paperclips, wood shavings, etc.

I'm surprised it worked at all, but good as new now... and didn't cost a thing.
  • We did the same as Penrhyn and have no regrets. The Miele is a far superior machine - lighter, easier to use and much better cleaning performance. Took the Dyson to the tip and added it to the Dyson mountain that was already there!
