If I watch 'catch up' tv...does it slow my computer down?

It has just occured to me that since I have been watching a few of my favourite shows on 4 OD or Demand 5, that my broadband is REALLY slow.
I didn't realise that the speed would be affected like this.
I am with Talk Talk but the exchange is pretty rubbish and I am on 4MB.
Will it restore itself if I stop watching 'catch up' TV?
I hope so!
Advice really welcome...I do feel a bit dim about all this!

It could be that a) you are going over the download limit and they have throttled the line or b) the catchup uses some p2p system which is slowing it down0

If you are watching the streams 'live' (ie if I go to iPlayer and watch the video in my browser) then there should be no noticeable difference to your browsing speeds because you're not actually browsing -just staring and streaming. If you share your connection in the house then they will possibly notice a difference as you are sharing the speed of course.
I don't know how those particular services you mention work but if you download the files to your desktop and then continue to share through P2P you could notice a massive loss in speed.
If you really want to know what happening you have to see what's running on your computer.0
