Someone hit my car...

Ok i feel really guilty and i just won't reassurance that i did the right thing.
I pulled off a roundabout onto a busy slip road this morning, there is alots of roadworks and the road was full of car's stuck in rush hour traffic so i pulled up behind the car infront getting into the que waiting for the traffic to clear.
Unfortunatly the woman behind me didn't see the que in time skided in the rain and smashed right into the back of my car.
Luckily we where both fine, however she's smashed up the front end of her car quite badly.
However The damage to my car is minor at worst, the plastic of my bumper has buckled by bounces back into position leaving little white scar's in the gray plastic but brief inspection the rest of my car seems unharmed and i was able to drive to work.
She gave me her details and we parted, i said i would get my car checked out and let her know, i wasn't really too worried about the damage to my car.
It's seems silly to ruin the poor womans no-claims over what is possibly minor damage (a replacement bumper), but i also feel i need to get my car checked out fully because although the damage appear's minor there might be some more serious damage i can't see.
Tbh when she hit me she hit quite hard, when i got out of my car i have expected to see the whole back end smashed up and was really suprised to see what little was done...
However getting to work the paranoid side of me kicked in, i didn't want to drag her though the insurance as i know minor bumps like this are easy to do, but im now worried that she may claim possibly blaming me for the accident and im worried that if i don't claim down offical channel's it might come back to bite me on the !!! at a later date, as i say her car was quite badly damaged and will be expensive to repair the last thing i want or need is for that to somehow land on my doorstep.

get your car checked to be sure, my bumper was ok but the floorpan (the bit where the spare wheel goes had buckled.
She cant blame you as she hit the back of your car, and you would have to reverse at high speed to wreck her car!
I had someone hit my car at lowish speed but an old lady (15mph ish) and it did crack the paint but i didnt bother claiming as would cost few hundred to repaint butthe car was scratched all over anyway!0 -
Get your car checked out soon.
It possible there is non-visible damage.
If you have any pains in your neck then get medical advice ASAP.
Hopefully that won't happen but advice can help stop the formation of scar tissue and give you a much better outcome, so don't be afraid to get medical advice if anything doesn't feel right. It's really important to get seen to sharpish.0 -
Get it checked out. Sometimes you can open the boot and then not be able to close it again.
She will lose her no claims as she will be claiming for her own car.0 -
would you go though the insurance or do it privately and let her pay for the repairs?
im no car expert .. the bumper is still intact but i don't doubt it's been severly weakened by the damage either way i want it checked, because as you say it was hit at some force and i don't want to risk "unseen damage" to the underside of my car.
If it's just a bumper i just feel cruel ruining her no-claims for what could be a £100 fix, she's going to have to pay for her car regardless as she said she was 3rd party only and thats going to cost her £100's (at a guess £600+) her front bumper is gone, bonnet is buckled and the metal plate protecting the radiator was giving it a cuddle though the radiator looked fine which from past experience i know is £400 worth of welding work to fix.
I dunno maybe i'm just soft i just figure she has alot to pay for already i'd just rather not ruin her no-claims if i can help it.
BUT!! i don't want this coming back to haunt me either. This months aim :- Stick to food Budget / find £100 for my car insuranceMay GC :- £250/£234.55 :T:A:TJune GC :- £150/£127.37:eek:0 -
hold on a sec! It isn't YOUR fault/problem, she hit you, it isn't YOUR fault/problem she is only third party. IT'S HERS!!
You have worked hard (maybe!) for your car and it is only right you get it checked out properly. I admire your thoughts for trying to safeguard her cash, but would somebody return the favour if you had hit them?
(PS Scrap all that advice if the female in question is blonde and big boobed, perhaps you could settle for her taking you out to dinner in that case!!)0 -
Very lovely that you care about her situation.
But at the end of the day this was all her fault and she chose to be 3rd party only.
If she wants to deal with it outside insurance, then that might be ok for you, but make sure you get the car checked properly and that you aren't suffereing any injuries before you agree to "settle".0 -
Don't be concerned over her NCD etc. That's what insurance is for. And don't be concerned over her - she's lucky she has only caused property damage through her bad driving.
Also don't get involved in seeing if she wants to pay etc, lots of people find stories change away from the scene of the accident.
Inform your insurer of the incident straight away.
Now get your car checked out, as already posted you may well have unseen damage. If your bumper has an internal impact absorption system, then it will need replacing and respraying which will be expensive, and there may be more structural damage as you say the impact was heavy.
If you do have damage you need to decide if you want to claim off your own insurance then claim off the third party for your uninsured losses, or just go straight to the third party for everything.
From what you say, liability is cut and dried, so a claim handler would probably be happy to take over for you, meaning you won't have to deal with the hassle.0 -

Blond and big boobed doesn't really float my boat haha ...
Yeah thanks guys i guess i'm just being soft really i guess i just like to give everyone a chance, if i can help out a fellow human being i guess i try to.
In this case though i guess it boil's down to getting my car fix and sorted with as little hassle as possible.
If i ring up my insurance company to get all this sorted it's not going to hurt my no-claims is it?? as it wasn't my fault im guessing it will be her insurance company that will pay for everything? This months aim :- Stick to food Budget / find £100 for my car insuranceMay GC :- £250/£234.55 :T:A:TJune GC :- £150/£127.37:eek:0 -
