3 demanding money

Three years ago I had a contract with three. At the closure of this contract I was asked to pay an extra £30.00 which I did. Two weeks ago I received a letter demanding £21.69. I dug out my out bills which I'd kept for some reason. The last one was in credit for £21.69. When I contacted 3 I couldn't get any sense from the 6 calls I made to India. They kept telling me that 3 had accidently refunded this amount to 1800 customers and I had to pay it back. Not expecting any action so quickly I left the letters however, last Friday I received a letter from a debt collecting company. Due to the fact I had lost my father in law the day before I couldn't be bothered with the hassle so I paid the bill. Has anyone else had this problem.
I can't contact anyone in the UK. They have an office in Glasgow but there is no telephone number for it.

Can anyone advice me on what action to take.

The CEO's email address is frequently repeated on this site - you could search for that.

But it is a bit late considering you have paid an external company.
