Has anyone ever tried to haggle the price of a Homebase,B&Q or Wickes kitchen down in price?
Do they actually drop it if you try and haggle or are they being a big multi national company have prices that are set in stone?

Thanks
Darren

Ok, i should warn you that im slightly biased as I work for Wickes but having said that ill be totally honest with you.....

We do all price match. You need to be totally aware of what your getting for your money though. A Wickes kitchen is a far better quality, 18mm carcase, 15mm solid backs etc etc. Pop in to all three stores and open the cupboards, then push the back, that gives you an idea of how ridged they are.

Make an appointment to see a Kitchen and Bathroom specialist in the store and they will show you all the features and benefits of us v's them!! Also they are trained not to give you the "hard sell" so it should be a pleasent and relaxing experience not a whole load of pressure.

The policy is to price match like for like product and as our quality is better its not technically that HOWEVER we almost always price match anyway so you get a better kitchen for the same price.

Good Luck and Enjoy!! PS If you plan on buying tiles etc to go with it then sign up for the new loyalty card "my card" and you will get 500 points to start you off xx:money:

I got a Wickes kitchen - they are quite good compared to the other places I went to. I also got my bathroom from there. They never reduced the price for me on either of the purchases - did try though.

I may be one of those people that can't haggle on prices and you may have better luck.

In order of quality, I would put Homebase at the bottom, then B&Q. Wickes Kithens are very good for the money. If I hadn't bought mine already, I'd have been buying one of Wickes framed kitchens.

When the sale first starts most Kitchens and Bathrooms are reduced by up to 50%. A few weeks later they will introduce a TLP (Time Limited Promotion) which is just that Time Limited!! It will last usually about a week or two. Sometimes thats combined with Interest Free Credit. At this point your getting the best deal. The Designer will have the oppertunity to offer you up to 5% discount on top of this. x

    Hi Claire,

It is good to see someone enthusiastic about the company they work for, its pretty rare these days.

Don't you think though that these sales a pretty dishonest? Surely the honest approach would be to just have a straight forward price that represents the costs plus a respectable profit margin.

Most independent kitchen specialists like us do this as we feel it is pointless to double the price to then take 50% off.

To everyone else, please try a decent local independent kitchen specialist, you will probably find they mainly get their work from recommendations and are generally owner/designers. This means they don't have the over heads that the nationals do so you will probably get a better quality of kitchen for the same money and a better service.

    Good luck.

I'll second everything Claire xx said, although, if you do feel like a challenge, you could always push for an extra 10% off, instead of the 5% that the designer can offer. They'll need to get in touch with either the regional controller or the showroom guru, but it is worth pushing for...

I'd definately wait until a week before the sale ends, (or a week before the sale extension ends, the sales are ALWAYS extended) as thats when you will get the TLP's. IFC usually runs at a different time to the TLP's, but there is sometimes a crossover of a day or two...

Claire xx which store do you work in?

The reason they do it, is because everyone else does, may it be a kitchen, bathroom, or a sofa or blinds.

Also, with Wickes, when the products aren't in a sale, they have Spend and Save, which can actually work out cheaper than at sale time if you are buying a lot of appliances (ok, the appliances are massively overpriced in the first place, but some people just prefer buying everything from one place).
