I have a Microsoft WGA Notification pop-up asking
me to install and check the validity of my XP O/S.
Now, I don't want to install this as I understand it will
send my product key and ip address details to M$ every
time I start up my PC(something M$ neglected to inform users
of when they sent this out).
Does anyone know a way of stopping the install box from popping
up every time I start the PC?

You cant get any updates without the WGA tool, and theres no legal way to get around it.
You can install it then firewall the WGA notificaltion checker, I suppose0 -

Then why did you accept the Windows licence agreement?Does anyone know a way of stopping the install box from popping

All right, this sounds like Windows has already failed validation, if it's a legal key then you need to telephone MS and tell them what's happened, they should ask you some questions and then give you a new key.0 -
And what exactly is wrong with MS knowing your product key and IP address?
I can think of only one reason why a person wouldn't want them to know... And tbh they don't care. As long as people are using windows...They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
If its installed and giving you problems then a quick google search will tell you how to remove it.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Never mind.
For everyone's peace of mind who assumes I am using
pirate software I am not.
I have already previously confirmed the validity of my O/S with Micro$haft
and don't feel I need to confirm it yet again with added details.
Percy, it's not installed, I just want to get rid of the annoying
pop-up that is asking me to install it."Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

It will probably take you less than five minutes to resolve by actually talking to Microsoft. If, as you say, it's a legitimate version of Windows then it's not going to be problematic.
You've now spent more than five minutes posting about this, so you're just wasting your own time to be a stick in the mud..0 -
If you have such a big problem with MS, why do you continue to use them?
Because some of my games and software don't work
on other operating systems.
There are alternatives out there, such as Ubuntu.
Yes, I know as I have been using several versions of Linux
for around 3 years now.
If you want to legally use a protected version of windows, then you need to install this software.
Why does M$ need to check the validity of my O/S on a daily basis?
Why does M$ gather not only my ip address but my HDD serial number, user locale, system locale,O/S version,PID/SID,BIOS info and BIOS MD5 checksum?
Do they really need to collect all that info just to check my O/S is
legit, which they already know as I have already confirmed with them?
I am sorry for being a "stick in the mud" but I simply do not wish to
install this software.
Maybe a pirate version would be a better option afterall.
Thanks anyway."Gort, klaatu barada nikto"

Why should I have to install it? My O/S is legal, end of.

Why? Because you agree to those terms in your continued use of the software. If you don't agree to this then go use another operating system, theres lots out there.
Maybe a pirate version would be better - lets hope you pick up every virus and piece of malware that this move would afford you0 -

The terms of the license you've agreed to contain limitations on how you are able to use the software. In order to confirm that you are acting within the boundaries of the license agreement there are checks that take place. Yes, the hardware components generate the Hardware ID which when there are significant changes to the base components can indicate the software may have been transferred to a new machine in a way that is not permitted, it's just MS's way of protecting their assets. The same applies when multiple serials are used to activate numerous copies of Windows.I am sorry for being a "stick in the mud" but I simply do not wish to
install this software.
For what reason?Maybe a pirate version would be a better option afterall.
I'm struggling to understand how breaking the law and having to undergo the flaky ways to activate Windows temporarily is a better way to just picking up the phone0
