I appreciate the point exil but explain this ....

A friend was made redundant with a 20k payoff .... he wanted to set up as a self-employed kitchen fitter ..... he did, got JSA for the first six months, sent on a small biz course, and had the electrical course he wanted to do paid for .... and obviously had the 20k to fall back on....

If the deciding principle on this isn't whether you have money to live on or not, but which box is ticked as in 'did you leave your job or did job leave you' I'll try the plan of leaving London, starting work for O/H's business, and if it can't support me, I'll claim and see what happens.

Dont forget that when you go to sign on you have to actively prove that you are looking for work and after six months they will put the pressure on you to get something asap

I saw a thread earlier with someone in exactly the same position as me but it had petered out. I currently work full time. Me and O/H plan to move to Dorset. O/H is going in 2 weeks and will be setting up a small biz to support himself. Plan is I follow down in 6 months once his biz is up and running. Here's the question - when the 6 months are up, I'll be voluntarily resign from work. I was hoping I could claim JSA Contribs based, while I took a 'sabbatical'. Before anyone has a go, I've worked the last 30 years without a break, paying tons of tax and NI, and want this time to re-think what I actually want to do/get qualified for and I need this time for myself. I think because i voluntarily quit my job that I can't get JSA, even though relocating to be with my O/H doesn't seem to matter.

What if ..... after I moved, my O/H's biz 'employed' me, say for 3 months, with all the relevant paperwork .... then 'made me redundant ' as the business couldn't support me. Would that work ? Would I then get JSA ??
Hi I once left my job to be with my now husband in a different county. (I was pregnant at the time) I claimed JSA-contribution based. It was looked into whether I'd be sanctioned for leaving a job voluntarily but in the end they agreed to pay it. This was in 1998. You may get it, like I did or you may not. Sorry I've no idea about the second part of your question.
