Broken iphone?

I'm just looking for some advice on what to do with a seemingly broken iphone.

I upgraded to one on O2 with a contract extension about 3 months ago. Today the screen went blank. It's totally unresponsive to any buttons as far as I can tell.

I thought at first it might have run out of battery, but charging it doesn't seem to have helped. It does vibrate on being charged, and the weird thing is that if you phone it, it does vibrate, but I can't answer the call and the screen stays black. So I'm guessing the screen is duff.

What should I do? Does anyone know any way to fix it? Or how to go about getting a repair? I've never had to do this before. There was no mistreatment involved, it was workign when I put it in my pocket and not when I took it out

Have you tried plugging it into your pc with a USB and opening iTunes? I think you can restore it to factory settings on there and then just sync it with any apps/music you have stored in your iTunes library.

This worked for me when mine went mental a few months ago.

Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday. I did as Minxy_Bella suggests and it worked for me. Everything was restored to its previous state except for the apps I had downloaded.

It seems I need to re-purchase the paid for apps as it doesn't remember that I have already bought them. Rip-off!

Thanks guys, found a solution in the end - holding down both the power button and the home button for about 10 secs managed to force a reset :)
