O2 Broadband Contract Renewal

I have been with O2 Broadband (£7.50p/m) for nearly a year and my contrat is going to end in about 2 months time. I have been very happy with them and would like to stay with them if possible but want a good deal to go with it. I use a PAYG phone deal to go with this package but don't use the phone much as I have a work phone. Can any forummers help me out with on how I can bargain a deal with them? Has anyone tried it and what did you ask/do? What is the best way to approach it and what is the best renewal deal you have ever had with 02 broadband? Many thanks for your feedback.

So far the best reported has been 2 free months in return for a new 12 month contract.

I would think that £7.50 is already a good deal - but you should point out to them that you use your work phone mainly - So it unlikely that you will get a discount but try and get a few free months out of them.

BTW what network is your work phone on? If it is on O2 you could use that for discount or maybe work would be willing to switch network? (a long shot I know)

If you went to Bethere, whose network O2 uses for BB, you'd get 3 months free and probably £50 quidco. How does that compare with the yearly cost of O2, bearing in mind you also wouldn't need to keep topping up the payg phone as well?

Might be useful as a bargaining chip.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Thats a good idea - I have heard if you phone them up and tell them you are coming from o2 they might give you a deal - but you won't get quidco then

Thanks guys! I just renewed mine with 02 and got 3 months free. To get around the top up business I was told to contact a friend who has o2 phone contract and link their number to our account so I won't have to top up in the future. Nice deal

Were the 3m free on the basis of REMAINING on the o2 Standard tariff - ie as agreed by you on the phone with them

    OR

was it on the basis of signing up for a new o2 Premium contract (ie 12m+ with 3m free for anyone) ?

Good reminder to everyone about the o2 mobile #. The number does NOT have to be registered to you/household, but each o2 mobile # can ONLY cause a discount on ONE home broadband discount and you will need the mobile # owner to read you a number from a confirmation SMS they send to validate that it really IS linked to you, not just a random number you chose to use!

It was on the standard tariff ie the cheapest £7.34 deal on remaining in the tariff. Do you think I would be able to get the preminum package on this deal? That would be a bargain i reckon.

Well anyone on o2 home broadband can log into their account on www.o2.co.uk and go into their My Broadband section and see a Change/Upgrade your broadband menu option that shows you what package/features you are sub'd to and what your choices for changing are.

eg I've been on Standard for 18m now and it offers me the chance to move to Premium with the first 3m free BUT on the basis of a new 12m+ contract!

As my line is only able to get around 4.2Mbp ie half of Standard, there's not really any point in my upgrading (especially as I am a pre18Dec08 subscriber so get my 3 x McAfee licenses anyway) as only 100 extra online SMS a month could have any value to me.

BTW: if you got to continue your Standard with 3m free then that's the best renewal deal I've heard of - one guy reported he was offered 2m free to stay and not move to Be (last month when they were offering 3m free and high online cashback so were atypically cheaper, especially for a new joiner!).

Thanks. I also considered BE broadband but the 3 month free is only on Pro and Unlimited. The unlimited is around £10 permonth expensive than O2 cheapest so you are paying 9x£10 = £90 extra if you take my situation in to account. Topcashback offers £40 cashback for Be
