After cheap Pipex-a-like service

I'm on an enforced economy drive and as part of it I could do with switching my broadband supplier.

I am currently on Pipex 1Mb Solo 1000 at £23.44 which has no bandwidth limit. I download a fair amount of TV so I need an uncapped account from my new supplier too.

Initially I looked at Tiscali, but it would appear that they are terrible to deal with, and that they don't stick to their fair use policy for high users. As a result I was considering going with TalkTalk at £14.99. I'm already with them for phone calls on Plan 1 (although I did request a switch to Primus last weekend, nothing signed yet).

TalkTalk advertise an unlimited service, but assuming they also have a fair use policy, how good are they with heavy users? Before coming to these forums I've always believed you get what you pay for, and Pipex have been rock solid for me. Can I really expect a comparable service from someone like TalkTalk for just over £100 per year less?

TIA.

I assume, you are not aware that Pipex have started to throttle their connections from beginning of this month. If you are not affected yet - you soon will be! The same applies to Talk Talk; so - if you like your broadband unthrottled and unlimited, then you would most probably have to move from Pipex anyway, and it does not seem likely that you will find a similar service cheaper to make any significant difference to your savings.

You can have a quick peek on ADSLguide particularly the Pipex and Talk Talk sections to see what other users are saying. Incidentally, the first few threads dominating these sections contain words and phrases like leaving, MAC code, throttling, slow speed, poor connection - which should give you an idea of things to come...
