Complaint

Options
I had to file a complaint through the FOS so that they can refer it to a bank which has provided me with bad service and after searching for a long time I could not find the details for complaints all the bank website said was I had to request it.

How long before the Ombudsman forwards my complaint?

What happened was that I sent the cheque in with an application for the account and the cheque was lost. The set up is poor as the bank returned all my documents a number of times. What happend was that they required my documents without the cheque as the ID checks failed rather then keeping it. Then I sent back the documents with the note telling them that I sent a cheque but they ignored that note and told me to send a cheque. This time I took the cheque with the application and the ID documents to the branch. The man collected the stuff told me that they would send it back but then I recieved a phonecall and it turns out he did not tell them that and they were phoning in regards to the note.

I have been told that I have to stop the cheque at my own cost even though they lost it.

Why don't some banks publish the complaints procedure online?

Most banks will stop a cheque free of charge if it is lost or stolen.

How do I do that? Do I need to get a letter from the bank involved?

No, just either phone up telephone banking or go into a branch and tell them. You will need the six digit cheque number.

They all publish their address. Thats all it takes. You write to them or phone them. When they respond they outline the time process and what happens next.
