Opinions On This Deal, Please.
Looking to replace R Reg Ford Ka, with new or very nearly new small car. Was hanging on for Scrappage deal to see how it panned out, but less than convinced now. Ka is still in good nick with full MOT and would still sell privately, I reckon.
Found a 58 plate 1.2 Fiesta, 1100 miles, dealer registered, (well-known dealer) for £5,800, which went to see yesterday. Car was very dirty when we arrived for the test drive appointment and had a small scuff on the rear arch, which had been done that day and would be repaired.
When we enquired about the P/X allowance for the Ka, the nonsense started. Spent an infuriating hour locked in a room in a Portakabin with 2 sales guys playing good cop/bad cop. Basically it seemed to me no one wanted to sell this car at that price.
Immense pressure to add on a special treatment for the paintwork, £20 for the petrol (compulsory!), GAP insurance..the pitch for which took about 20 mins and involved a silly quiz, a finance package which we don't require which was presented as a monthly repayment figure, no reference to term of loan or APR and hidden away in all this a £150 allowance for the P/X. The salesman's approach was very unpleasant and aggressive at the end. Basically I felt they were only interested in selling this car to some poor mug, who would say yes to this finance figure without reading the details of all the add-ons.
I have bought new from this dealer in the past and will definitely be writing to them regarding my experience and would be disinclined to deal with them again. HOWEVER, I think the car at £5800 is a great deal. We can sell the P/X privately and don't need finance, and I am comfortable with my DD using this car for the motorway driving she does.
There are some smaller cars which look to be competive in the scrappage deal, which she's looking at today, but I feel the Fiesta is good value for money. Do you agree? Any advice on dealing with the dealer?

The chances of those scrapes happening that day are pretty much NIL.
They are waffling, I would walk away, if you bought it, it would always be in your mind that you have lined their pockets with your hard earned cash.
All cars are sold for a profit so imagine the price they paid it for!! it must have been a low offer for a reason.0 -
The cheapest 58 plate Fiesta I can find trades for 7K. I wonder what the true history of this car is. Dealers don't sell cars at a loss not even in this climate.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. It is a well-known national dealership. They said it was a Service car and registered to them. The mileage seemed extremely low to me for a Service car registered last September.0

So why are the selling it for £1200-00 less than they would give you for part-ex on one?

It is a very basic 1.2 model.
With my limited experience in these matters.....what kind of dodgy scenario might you both be hinting at?!!!0 -
That's about the Parkers price.
A new model Fiesta could be £7995 with a scrappage deal.0 -
Is it the new or old shape fiesta?0

Must be the old surely?
But your experience with the dealer was very similar to the one I had when helping MIL buying car last year. Full of total bull, and even though I gave them a second chance to get the deal they still fannied around.
For them to get away with this you can only conclude that most folk who go in are exceptionally thick or just loose the will to live and just sign the order to escape......:rotfl:0 -
If you really want that car - then do the deal. But it makes your blood boil when you get this treatment and you want to tell them to stuff it! And then cut off your nose to spite your face.............
If it is the old shape - I prefer them anyway...
And make sure you complain about the service - or lack of, I should say!Genie

If it was the old shape FIesta then this could explain it. I think the new ones starta t 09 but could be on a 58 plate, will see what OP says.
Perhaps it was an import as well."The only man who makes money from a gold rush is the one selling the shovels..."0
