Hey
I have a router which I connect to my internet - the router is downstairs.
I have a laptop which I use the internet for mainly, but the laptop is almost 'dead' and it hasn't got long left, so i need to sort something out.
I have a standard computer in my bedroom but it is too far away from the router to connect with wires, and i don't think the computer can connect wirelessly.
Is there anyway at all I can use the internet from the router, on my computer?
If I don't sort something out soon I'll have to get one of those contracts where ou get a laptop aswell and pay a set amount per month, as I can't afford to buy another laptop

you can use your desktop machine to access the net from your router.
all you need is something like this to plug into a usb port on the desktop0 -
Is your router a wireless model?
If not you could use something like this:-
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Max-Value-Mbps-Home-Double/dp/B000TV7FJ4/ref=dp_cp_ob_ce_title_00 -
Hi Cable can go for very long distances 100m get it cabled up.
What is an almost dead laptop?
Desktop can be connected wirelessly buy a small PCI wirless card.
Wireless signals do not travel to far in houses especially upwards, wireless waves tend to propagate horizontally.0 -
If the router is "wireless" i.e. it supports WiFi then you can buy a usb wifi adaptor for the desktop and probably use it on the laptop too if it isn't so old it has no usb ports.
An alternative t running ethernet between floors would be a pair of HomePlug adaptors which use the mains wiring as ethernet (effectively at least).
Mobile BB is pretty poor compared to ADSL and usually costs more too. Unless you need mobile BB stick to ADSL.0 -

"do not travel far" - may well be far enough in this case.

Well my laptop -
on the right hand side it is almost dissorted, and is a multi-colour block of colours.
and a few squidges of black, it's difficult to explain.
But basically it is about 20% the width of my screen (on the right) is unviewable,
I tried a system restore, but didn't do anything. I also tried to take a printscreen of it, but it just doesn't show? very weird.
Also when i sort of "tap" or "knock" the laptop it sort of moves, and you can see a bit more, sort of thing?0 -
Screen duff?. Can you connect it to your desktop monitor to see what it looks like0
