waiting times...

If you were to leave your job, what would be the waiting times between the last day of work and the date you could claim for JSA and HB/LHA?

I was told it was a few weeks for JSA is that the same for LHA?

You would claim immediately. There is no benefit to waiting.

You may have your claim sanctioned somewhere down the line depending on why the job ended but certainly get the claim in ASAP.

Just spoke to my missus who works in this 'industry'.

    She tells me:-

Firstly, check out these sites for your circumstances :-

    http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/
    http://www.dwp.gov.uk/lifeevent/benefits/

    But in general:-

    1) Claims should be made immediately

    2) You could get NI contribution-based jsa while your claim is looked at...could take 6+ weeks

    3) If intentionally jobless, claims will almost certainly be rejected (depending on circumstances), which could/would involve recovering the money paid out.

    4) Even when sacked the claim could be rejected, again depending on the circumstances.

The claim will not be rejected, however it may be sanctioned. This means that the claimant will receive either no money, or a reduced amount, for the period of the sanction. The period could be up to 26 weeks.
    Gone ... or have I?

And any money already paid out will not be recovered.

lol - thanks for being so pedantic. I was simply trying to briefly summarise my missus' info. 'Rejected' was my word not hers. Surely the upshot (er..thats result by the way) would be the same; no money?
Hopefully the links I provided will be more helpful.

Thats very interesting. You mean somebody could claim and receive money that they are not entitled to, and then it will not be recovered?

What incentive would that be for people not to claim?

Where a claim is made, and the person has previously left a job or been sacked, they will receive money until a decision is made on whether they will be punished.

A sanction (Loss of money for a period) is put on the claim for a stated period. For that period nothing will be paid. That is the punishment. The money paid before that is not an overpayment. If the claimant gets a job before the sanction or during it they still wont be asked to pay the money back.

It was not pedantic, it was correcting incorrect and misleading advice.
