I put my money into my portfolio at the end of September 2007. Mostly UK and European equities but a large chunk of emerging markets too. It's down just over 30% in 19 months.0

My ISA portfolio which I started in mid February is currently up 97%. All UK equities, a mix of sectors, some lower risk stuff but a reasonable appetite for risk. I'm moderately active in managing the portfolio and so will quickly cut any losses whilst letting the profits run. I was a little too active earlier on and tried to chases prices around too much and obviously didn't manage to time it right on a number of occasions so had I not made these mistakes the value of my portfolio could be even higher. I found it too easy to get lured into over trading.0

My ISA made up of funds is down 11% overall. That was opened May last year. It was around 20% down but has had a bit of a recovery, and I've put more money in. My stakeholder pension is in the "I don't really want to look" category! It will have been fully exposed to the downturn
My share trading account is up around 80% in 6 months though its not a big share trading account.

I would have thought your portfolio would be classified as extremely high risk+ if it has the capacity to show a 97% increase in less then 3 months.0 -
Although I have not yet invested into Investment portfolio, that I will do next month with Share Builder, I already selected the shares to invest into, most of which are FTSE 100 and one which is FTSE 250 and one which is neither.
It is currently -0.92% down.0 -

If you have had your portfolio for more than 7 months you are more likely to be down.
If youre a recent investor you may be up.
I could have invested £100,000 and be 10% up. Someone could have bought £100 worth of shares and post here that their portfolio is up 97%. Its all relative/meaningless.0 -
since oct 2007 when I took on my dh`s sipp. Invested at times, got out at times, got rid of stocks invested and later cashed gilts, all cash a few times etc etc Now up 3.7% since start but let down badly by banks and housebuilders at one point and sold all at a relatively large loss but no where near as bad as it could have been if I had kept them. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Now fully invested mostly in good solid stocks plus pibs and some prefs. Divis are starting to drop into the account again0
