negotiating on a C1
Options
This is probably a long shot but I wondered if anyone had successfully negotiated any sort of discount on the Citroen C1 that is currently being offerered new at £6395?
We've almost decided to buy this car as a run around to save on petrol costs and running costs for small town journeys and have been talking to main dealers none of whom will budge on the price as they say this is bottom line, cut their own throat price anyway. I've always bought new and have never paid brochure price for anything, including other Citroens, but before I go and make a final decision I thought I would just ask on here in case anyone has achieved any further discounts.
I'm only looking at the base 1.0 C1 in red 'as it comes'.

Hi Soolin,
my wife has come across the same problem.
I assume that at that price you are looking at a 3-door. She already has an 06 c1 5-door in red. (Daughter is taking it over - 17000 miles on it only) We did get a discount then.
Wifey wants another new 5-door one in red again.
Our local Citroen dealer went under end of 08 so we have been travelling around the area.
We are seriously looking on-line as well. Problem is that with 60mph, £30 raod tax and low insurance they are very popular, especially when comparing them to the Aygo and 107 which are basically the same car but dearer. There are even a couple of 3-door 57 plate C1s locally for just under £6000
If we manage to come up with anything will post/pm
ps. good luck they are great little cars - no boot as such but fantastic interior space0 -
Hi Soo, you don't venture here very often. Probably not being very helpful but why a C1?
What about a Panda http://www.fiatsupasaver.com/selectacar.aspx?vid=3 (I take a bit of stick on here about suggesting it but I think they are great wee cars and Fiat have improved a lot in recent years and they might buy Vauxhall!) I like the 1.2 engine.
Honestjohn recommends the Hyundai i10 which comes with a 5 yeat warrant and is supposed to be very good (I don't thnk discounts are great though)
The one I really like is the Suzuki Swift and I think there are some deals available on it.
As for the C1 (without breaking my neck) the cheapest I can find it is £6,369 @ drivethedeal (3dr)
Hope I haven't confused the issue too much.
Some other ideas:-

All the best offers:- http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/best_deals/item.htm?id=3858 (Including:- Toyota Aygo 1.0 VVTi 3dr £5,959 Saving £1,081)0 -
Thanks, that is interesting.
My OH has a C8 already which is still eneded occasionally for the size but of course expesnive to run on short journeys. I currently run a 4YO C3 in black which I adore. My sister has the Peugeot 107 and says she struggles to actually use petrol at all as it is so economical. We bought the C8 and the C3 at the same time and got about 9k off of book price so I know Citroen used to 'deal'
I'm happy with just the offer C1 at £6395 and although the price is only for the red one I like it anyway and probably would have chosen that colour, and frankly I'm buying on price anyway. One of the dealers can get me the car I want in around 10 days, one can't say how long i'd have to wait and we are seeing a third dealer this morning.
I can get a second hand one but strangely enough here in London they are a lot dearer than buying a new one, I saw a yellow one on the forecourt yesterday at a year old, 18,000 on the clock for over 7k!
I also looked at the Peugeot as my sister says they are nicer but I'm not prepared to pay extra really as I am completely buying on price..I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hintza, I was looking to buy new and am happy with Citroens, this is what I was looking at

£6395 on the road.
I don't have a problem with Fiats and have had an Uno which I adored and a Punto which I didn't as the trim just started to fell apart after about 10,000 miles and the colour died (which I think is a noted Fiat problem). Dad had the uno as well and again that went from bright red to a faded pink in around 8 years.
EDIT: To say I test drove the Swift and didn't like it, although I don't think I drove the current model.
We'll probably put my sons on the insurance over time as well (one we take out a second mortgage of course as they are boys and we live in London so insurance is !!!!) and would prefer an uncool car so they are not tempted to do silly things to show off in it. I can't imagine that letting them borrow mums C1 is going to tempt them to be a boy racer or to show off to their mates by being silly.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well if the deal is real the Toyota looks the best buy of these clones.0

Try all the Brokers recommended by Martin. I actually got my VW Fox from a main dealer as a fleet deal, all they do is pay the Broker a fee. It was delivered free, all I did was take the driver to the station.0

Very good company to deal with and if you can get anyone to match / beat their price then you've got an excellent deal.
If you do decide to go with them I can recommend you and we also each get £25 high street vouchers, but thats not my reason to recommend them, they were excellent with me for our Fiesta.0 -
DD has 107 which she paid 6190 for last year, I'm sure the same deal would be available. Wish I had the odd 4k as we've got all old cars and would like a new one. We prefer the 107 just because its got a smile on its bonnet.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

OK, I did it..I placed an order. I loved the car on a test drive and the insurance on it is really really good even if we do add our DS's later.
I have paid book and the only odd thing that I have never come across before is that although we have ordered and paid a deposit the dealer said there is a chance they won't be able to get the car and if that is the case our deposit will be returned. Apparently the deal is being financed directly by Citroen so they are making no extra as a dealership and Citroen require the car to be registered by end of April, and they can't find any in stock. They did say that Sunday is a terrible day for searching for stock and it may be they find one tomorrow earmarked for another dealership which they can have but they would not guarantee it. The dealer we bought from reckon they have sold every car they have got so far, plus some they are expecting this week and which they pre registered 2 weeks ago and so they have no more deliveries now until after the offer ends.
DH told me not to be too concerned, he said they are not going to walk away from a sale on this.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
