problems with my 8mb unlimited tiscali broadband

I've heard that the internet can be slower at peak times but I am finding that my tiscali connection between about 1930 and 2200 is chronically slow and any sort of streaming is out of the question. Bad news as I have just subscribed to setanta's broadband service.

I have the 8mb tiscali unlimited service + line rental + free phone calls package. If the speed problems are down to tiscali (I can't get a sensible answer to my complaint to them - they just discuss router and pc settings which are already correct) then I want to switch supplier as I am out of the lock in period.

Can anyone recommend a like for like product? I don't have Sky so not looking for their package deals yet.

I'm not 100% sure I understand your question, but I'm on Tiscali Max Unlimited 8mb service, if that's what you're referring to.

Adsl slows down a lot at peak times. If you want it to run better at all times i'd go for cable.

Im not sure what the general opinion is of Virgin, but the service here is good.
  • Two things I can think off.

1st try using OpenDNS settings (google it) and test to see if that helps
2nd check your connection speed both up and down on the router/hub

I'm a Bulldog LLU customer on the original C&W infrasructure. As soon as Tiscalli took over even webpages were timing out at peak times. Using the OpenDNS settings has vastly improved my browsing and streaming speeds and stability.

I've also had a fault fixed recently - where my line speed was dropping due to a problem at the echange it was 150-180 up by 1000-4000 down it should be 500+ up by 6700+ down

Most people are switching to BE or O2 depending on if you have a moblie contract. almost the same price for 3 times as much download speeds

up to... no one will get 24Mb, and if you are far from the exchange anyway, you won't see much of an increase
