I am sorry it has come to that. poor dog.
please do not breed any more dogs if this is the way they are handled.0 -
we hadnt bred him yet! i was asked why he wasnt neutered...
but my dad says he couldnt take the chance of him being neutered and it happening again this time to a child... i dont understand why u made that comment- the dog was brought to a tranier, he was well cared for and twice he bit someone- they were both adults, next time it could have been a child. Now a mother to my beautiful daughter OliviaBorn 10th Dec 2010 weighing 7lb 1oz:A

I will expand on what I mean, and I am sorry, because I know you are upset and sad, and this isnt what you want to hear right now, but leaving a dog tied up whilst eating where he could be approached by someone is a bit of a recipe for disaster - many dogs are defensive whilst eating, or in a situation where they feel they cannot escape (ie. tied up) - so sorry to say, but that was his owners lookout really.
Without knowing more about the incident with the gardener, I cannot really coment on that, but as the gardener said the dog was alright, it doesn't sound as if he was savaged..
However, without more information on the whole scanrio, what the dog is like normally, what you have tried etc. it is difficult to really know why it has come to this.
Re - breeding - There are far too many dogs around as it is, so breeding should never be undertaken lightly, but I do think you have to consider the role the owner has played in a dogs aggression. Personally, after this latest incident, I would have been looking to get a good behavioralist and a thorough vets health check and neutering rather than going to get him PTS - but I do recognise that this has been your dads decision rather than yours - is it his dog or yours?0 -
its my dads dog, ive just recently moved out of home but live close by.
he was tied to a tree because there was a japenese akita near, although i mentioned the food being near, he is a fussy eater and only eats when he wants to.
a few weeks ago my sister went near him whilst he had a bone-he growled a her then snapped she freaked out..we learned not to go near him again when he had a bone.
he is quite a stubborn dog and fully understands what u want him to do but just wont do it. when he was walked he was ALWAYS on a lead... my mum brought him to a trainer then brought him again after the 1st incident- he seemed to think that their recent trip to Oz and leaving the dog with a friend something must have happened.... i called in on the dog regulary and took him out to give my dads friend a break as he was quite a demanding job
last year they put him in kennels in the country and he came back with sores on his paws and was walking funny for the next few days this is why he was left with a family friend (who would have shouted etc but not abused him)
i just feel so crap that i didnt walk him as often as maybe i should have, im just completley broke now hes away.... i really hope he doesnt get put down i.e they refuse to but my mum says he cant come back here as theres too many kids on our street- she didnt sleep last night either and is probably more destroyed than me but the dog had loads of attention and i just dont know what made him turn.
as silly as this sounds i just wish he knew what he dont yesterday and the consequences of it....
i'm stilll crying
oh and btw he was a Kerry Blue terrierand before we got him i was against it because i thought they were ugly dogs, now i feel so guilty!

I am really sorry, it must be gutting for you. It does sound as if he was a little food aggressive, as so many dogs are - what breed is he? It sounds as if there has been a lot going on for him.
ETA - sorry, just realised you said he was a kerry blue terrier - I dont know mch abut the breed, but would assume like most terriers they will be livewires, need loads of exercise and stimulation, (mental stimulation as well as physical) and are likely to be quite strong minded, independant dogs - not always the easiest dogs to live with, and all dogs need a lot of socislisation and training, both as pups and throughout their lives.0 -
I'm so sorry about your dog.
I can understand how and why your dad is doing it.
I take it you had this dog from a puppy.
If your dad or you are going to get any other dogs i would suggest that you take them to training classes every week and read up on training dogs/puppies as from what you have said it seems like the training of the dog was not very good, and mabye with correct training it may have been sorted i.e "we learned not to go near him again when he had a bone"
The dog itself doesnt know anything, its like it going to sleep for an operation,0 -
a kerry blue
thats the most accurate picture of him:

i know he wont be in pain, its the fact he wont wake up
the guy they had taken him to had a programme on tv and was 160quid for 6 weeks, i was able to teach him to sit and give me his paw but if he seen another dog or someone that shouldnt be there he freaked out...
each incident was a small bite but the point my dad made was next time it may not be..Now a mother to my beautiful daughter OliviaBorn 10th Dec 2010 weighing 7lb 1oz:A

What you describe also seem to be 'snapping' rather than biting - I am sorry, and I know its now too late, but he may have done better in a different home with an experienced terrier owner and with less opportunities for getting into trouble.
