  • Look at Daihatsu Sirion. Toyota reliability, 5 years warranty,5 doors and plenty of space. go for the 1 litre model and its only £35 tax a year.

We have had a change of heart, we still think we are going to get a new car as the Mazda is 16 yrs old (we bought it when it was a couple of years old.) However on actually looking at the new cars they are too small for our needs.

I quite like the Hyundai i20 which we could get for about £6195, (RRP £8195) I sat in one over the weekend and it was a nice car, plenty of boot room, a/c and remote central locking.

  • My local Perodua dealer tells me that Perodua are in the scheme, but they've temporarily withdrawn all models, and are 'reintroducing' the Myvi and Kenari at the end of May. The Kelissa is no longer mentioned or shown on their website, so the chance of it becoming the cheapest car avaialable are remote. The Kenari was £5499 including £500 tax back, which has been the offer for the past year or so. They've now removed that offer, upped the price to £6499 and now they're offering £1000 cashback. With the governments £100o offer that brings it down to £4499 plus tax and delivery making it £4620 on the road. So Perodua themseleves are giving nothing away, but its still a cheap car.
As I've got a 12 year old Daihatsu Move, I'm looking to get one -I've looked at the Panda, i20, Splash,Aygo etc but they're all poor on visibility compared to the Move/Kenari. The Panda is a nice little car, but at 6'3" I found I was looking straight at the roof instead of looking at the sky. With the Wagon R and Agila gone, there doesn't seem to be anything else on the market that gives the great all round visibilty of the Move. (Well apart from the larger Doblo types, but I only want a car for one plus some boxes.)

If you like the Hyundai i20, you should also be looking at the Kia C'eed, (and vice versa) as they're both based on the same platform, and Kia have a 7 year warranty. Or is that Hyundai?!

Hi, am in a similar situation. I have a very old and battered M reg mondeo, looks dreadful but drives like a dream. However, it is getting more and more expensive to keep on the road. I was looking at getting a Kia Ceed which were advertised by my local dealer at £7295. However, when I went into the dealership, the salesman denied it was advertised at that price and quoted me £8995 AFTER scrappage. Was not impressed. He did not seem interested in selling me a car at all, even when I said I had cash money in the bank. Needless to say, I walked away. The same model is now advertised at £10740 making it £8740 after scrappage. I have two children so need something big enough to fit them in, will mostly be doing local driving but do go on the motorway 2 days a week for work. Any suggestions/better deals anyone has seen. Don't really want to spend more than £5k but could push to £6k. Thanks

If you can go to 6k and need a bigger car, I would certainly take a look at the hyundai i20. A micra would also fall into your budget, as would a Ka, but I think they would be too small for the children.

No there not, the Hyundai i30 and Kia Cee'd are based on the same platform, the i20 is a smaller car.

The Cee'd has a 7 year warranty, Hyundai has 5 years.

Sorry about that, these new Hyundai numbers confuse me, and I haven't seen many of the cars around, so the i30 replaces the Accent.
