Moving - Still on contract

Options
Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience. Due to the penchant for Sky to insist on signing up to a contract I am on one (12 month). It still has a little way to go but I am in the process of moving before the contract expires. I do want to keep Sky (and would be prepared to look at broadband with them) but I do not want to pay £60 to move and then have to enter into another contract for 12 months or worse still pay out the remaining term of this contract and then enter into another one. I just want to pay the move fee and keep my current contract term.

If they insisted on paying out the existing contract, paying for the move and then signing up to a 12 month deal I would just pay out the term and leave them.

So, will sky simply let me transfer the contract (with its remaining term) to the new premises - i am happy to pay the standard £60 moving fee? Anyone have a similar experience.

Why not get a local installer to remove your dish (or you could do it, only 4 bolts holding it to the wall), take it with you and get it installed with some new cable at your new address. Then ring SKY and get them to change your address only.

would likely cost me more than £60 to get someone to come around and install it - and besides I think the contract ties you in to a specified address.

we had a local chap move ours, he removed it from our chimney at the old house, refitted it on the wall of the new house, wired it through the wall and wired a new socket for the phone lead, he charged us £25.

has the house you are moving too got sky, if so ask them if they would leave it wired up, then take you dish down and give it to them. this would also save them money as they would only have to pay for insalation at their new place.

the contract does not tie you to any address, we just moved then called them with change of address.

The new address does not have sky. I have the landlords permission to put it in at the new place provided I put it repair any damage at the end of the tenancy so I am worried about the usual drill a hole through the wall routine of some installers who fail to put in any sort of socket and just pull the cable through the wall and leave it.

I dont actually think the dish is mine either as there was a dish existing prior to my move in at my existing place so I do not think I could just take it off the wall as much I might like to....

I wonder if an option would be to simply take the sky package down to the minimum and then leave it to run down its term rather than go through the drama of sky threatening to charge me for the sky+ etc?

Thanks for the advice - looking forward to your comments.
