You can set up a password on the itunes account which you need to enter every time you make a transaction. I think this is the default when you create the account.
If your son doesn't know the password he wont be able to help himself.0 -
Thank you for quick response so all in all if you dont have a debit card you cannot use ipod ?
Also how do you download music from own pc to ipod
Thanks again anyone who responds as i am going to scream LOUD:rotfl:Just back into comping past few months to help me get over rubbish in life.... won Hotpoint fridge freezer, soda stream0 -
No, the ipod should work even if you don't have an itunes account. Just install the itunes software but dont create an account. Itunes will connect to the Ipod and this is the program you use to transfer songs etc. You will need to import any MP3s you have already to ITunes and in future if you want to rip a CD you can use ITunes for this too.
The only reason you would need an ITunes account is if you want to buy something from the ITunes store. To be honest I think your son will get a lot more out of his Ipod if he could get access to the store because you need to use the store to get hold of apps etc (even if they are free).0 -
so an itunes account is basically for purchasing things and and downloading free games etc ?
sorry about all these dumb questions:rotfl:

You don't need to enter debit card details. You can buy an iTunes giftcard and set it up with that, or there's another way.
Go to the app store, and try to buy a free application (such as this). It'll tell you to sign in or create a new account. Click "create new account" and go through the various screens. When you get to the payment info screen, there will now be an option for "None". Select that, and it'll set up the account without asking for any payment details.
This article explains how to add songs to iTunes:

The last thing I would do is put my card details into a siblings ipod.
If he doesn't have his own bank account I'd suggest buying an Apple Music card, they come in various denominations.

You certainly do NOT need to register a credit/debit card with Apple to use itunes, only if you want to download music from the store.
Ahh just realised marty had already covered this sorry. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Personally I would make another account without any payment details. If he wants to buy anything, he can save his pocket money and buy an iTunes Store giftcard and credit it to his account.0 -
