you'll get a half decent flat in Paisley quite cheaply, only ten mins away from glasgow by train..

Or have a look at Crookston on the south side, very up and coming, house prices still fairly low, but rising, and it also has a train station! :)
The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
    It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.

lots of friends in cumbernauld who moved out from the centre of glasgow to get cheaper housing. got relatives in kirkintilloch, bishopbrigs again im told is ok, again just out of glasgow.. really depends on why your moving family work etc. weather you need a car to get to work or can take the train bus etc. driving around glasgow city centre in rush hour can be a nightmare, got caught up in many a time when visiting family.

Would suggest if you get the time to go up for a visit use one of the £10 travelodge rooms and drive around.

I was brought up in the west end within walking distance to the city centre but wouldnt go back to live that close. they keep moving the city centre bounderies and putting parking meters in and all that goes with being within the city centre boundry.

Hi, Glad to hear you are moving to Glasgow. My brother moved to Wigan 7 years ago and he is coming back home to Glasgow and has just bought a place in Troon , Ayrshire which is not too far away.
I live in Eaglesham which is a wee village on the outskirts of Glasgow ,at the back of Newton Mearns. The properties in this village are reasonably priced and we have just had a new bypass built which takes you to East Kilbride, Ayrshire and Glasgow very quickly so the properties are good value . A 2 bedroomed flat costs around £90k or a 2 bed villa approx £100k. You can search recent house price costs free on www.nethouseprices.com Hope this helps.shrewdal

    Hi,

I am shortly moving to Glasgow from London.

I would love to hear some recommendations from Glaswegians for an up and coming part of Glasgow or somewhere nearby.

    Thanks very much!

i'd recommend govan/drumoyne. central, being regenerated, handy for motorway. still pretty cheap.you can get a 3 bedroom houe or flat for less than £100k.
  • Hi,

As said previously it really depends on what you are looking for, whether reagrding kids or work.

Personally I would recommend Bishopbriggs, Kirkintilloch etc. 15 mins from City Centre and close to country - not far from Loch Lomond, Campsies etc.

Good public transport into city centre, plenty shops etc

    Mortgage-free Glee!
    Another vote for Shawlands.

Trouble is parking in some of the streets. Tenements were not built with car owners in mind! Some lovely flats though!

We started off in Kings Park in a 3 bed cottage flat and moved to east kilbride, far more house for your money, close to both motorways, buses everywhere and 2 train stations and shopping center is 15 mins from just about anywhere in east kilbride;) advice we were given when looking (10 years ago) was to avoid greenhills and whitehills although that might have changed you get teenagers everywhere so best if viewing anywhere view during day and also at night.
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  • If you want a nice flat and don't want the hassle of travelling I would recommend somewhere like the merchant city. Many of the old buildings are being renovated and the cafe culture there is fantastic. It is a stone's throw away from the main centre. Flats would be within your price range.
  • thanks to everyone who left a comment - there seem like quite a lot of interesting options - the only think for it is to take a look!

having said that, cafe culture sounds nice. Does it really get warm enough up there to enjoy it? :)))
