Always better to image to a seperate drive, (usb HD or DVD), if the drive with multiple partitions dies, you've lost everything.

It's an advanced backup, if the worse case scenario happens, hard disk dies or corrupts/virus/windows blue screen, it's a way of getting a complete working system back in less than an hour, with all your data and settings intact. The alternative is to reinstall windows, then programs, then data, which can take the best part of a day or more.0 -
