sorry im abit confused, i was thinking it was like the grocery challenge, is this meant to include all food we buy aswel as things we pick up that we didnt mean to. if that makes sense lol

it doesnt include anything that we had already planned to buy right?

Edit - ok ive reread the first post and i think i understand but for example lotto ticket, if you had already planned to get this would you count it in your spends for the week? im just trying to limit my grocery spends so should i just count it as the amount i want to spend for grocery in a week? thanks :)
  • Hey Focus

I have a seperate grocery budget, petrol budget and spends budget.

Anything grocery wise, toiletry wise, bunny food etc i buy from grocery budget, because i regularly buy lotto i personally include this in my grocery budget. i use my grocery budget when i do 'big shops'. So i have £120 for this stuff.

my weekly budget is if i pop to the local shop and buy 'extras' so the odd choc bar, mag, the odd scratchcard etc, and meals/ coffee out with friends i also include in this, or if i pop into town, my weekly budget covers car parking and anything i might buy when i'm there. i have £20 ish a week for this

Does that make sense, it did in my head when i was typing it? this is just what i do, i'm sure others do different things. it's what you find works for you.

  • Hello All
Hi Focus like ETO i try and include all known and planned spends in grocery budget (top-ups, petrol, school dinners,& lottery).
I use the weekly spend for money in my purse that way I can control my nonsense spends (trying).
Today the dreaded hayfever lurked it's head but I took advice from MSE Martin:A, and bought the generic tablets in bulk hence the spend so far, however these should last for 2months.
I hope everyone is doing fine.

    Hi there Focus,

my £10 budget excludes things like groceries, toiletries etc.

As ETO said, it's money i put aside for unessential stuff like, newspapers, snacks for when i get the mid-morning munchies, my daily can of fizzy pop :o, anything like that.

But of course you can budget differently to suit your needs. This challenge really helps you to think before you spend :T. Having said that, today i spent £4 on chocolate and a carrot cake :o. Couldn't say 'no' to my cravings after having a few good days of junk-free eating :(.

Oh well, tomorrow's another day ;).

Good luck with your weekly spending

    50p on coffee
    £4.98 on snacks

I'm trying not to reach for the crisps too often, so the snacks were low-fat pretzels (So low fat you need to eat two bloody packets of them!) and two tubs of pineapple from M&S. One I will eat tomorrow at work too.

I also spent money on facewipes (Grocery budget) and the pub (Entertainment budget) so otherwise I'm all good.

Total spend for today is £5.48

Ok time to confess:rolleyes:, I started the week well and was keeping track of everything, making lunch to take to work etc. Then today it all went to pot, I didn't manage to get lunch sorted so bought something (£3.20) I had snacks and a coffe mid morning (£3) and then (oh dear this is the point when it all went badly) I decided myself and the significant other needed to go out for dinner (£18) and to the cinema (free ticket but £2.60 on ice cream).

So all in all I have blown it for the week but in a spectacular, fireworks with big sparklers kind of way. On top of that I managed to get a parking ticket (£30 )

So I am not a happy bunny moneywise but the film (Wolverine) was excellent.

focus888 I agree with the other it can be hard to have your weekly budget for everything but some people like to do it like that. I prefer it to include incidental spends, things which could be avoided to make you think about them.

F_F what were your pineapple tubs from M&S like, last time mine were a bit chewy like there was too much core in them. Starting to think M&S are cutting corners.

bigbum hope you enjoyed the carrot cake.

sadsadjenjen hope your are nt suffering too badly with your hayfever.

First lot were fine (2 for £4 you see!) and I will report back if today's tub are anything less than perfection :D
