I would post the updated SOA again, without it, people can't really help advise you of the best course to take.

If I earn but my partner doesn't, and most of the debts are in my partner's name (although it was joint spending iykwim), and the likes of CCCS wont touch us because there is nothing left over to offer creditors (loan company and credit cards) what are we supposed to do?

We have cut back on everything that we can.

we have already had one 6 month period of paying £100 pcm with frozen interest to the biggest credit card, they won't do it again.

If they are (technically) your partner's debts and he has no income, then perhaps set up your own DMP using template letters from this site and offering £1 a month to each creditor. The creditors cannot have what he doesn't earn, but at least you will be seen to be making an effort. You can review the situation if and when the work comes back in. But to be honest your partner probably needs to be looking at alternative employment as the creditors won't wait forever.

Thank you, just having a little wobble today I guess. He has tried, honestly, he is construction by trade, but he has set up a man and van business to try and utilise the van, which has brought in the odd £30 here and there, he has tried to get fork lift work as he has a licence, and unbelievably can't get anything! the agencies have been looking for something for him for a while now.

this time next year we will be £700 a month better off, just dont know if we can last that long really...I may just bite the bullet I think and do as you say and offer token payments for now....but to be honest its not the debts that we can't manage, we can't even manage basic outgoings without dipping into the overdraft...

Can't do bankruptcy as he is part time armed forces. I wish we could.

How much does he earn in the TA (?) per month. Is this less than your debt payments. If so it might be worth getting another outdoorsy hobby.

He's not really earning anything yet, he is still training

I have no doubt your OH is hardworking - an old boyfriend worked in construction and I ran many a bath and put many a meal on the table only to watch him too exhausted to pick up a flannel or fork! There is no reliable work in any area of construction, he must get his head away from this industry.

Make token payments, and ensure you are claiming all the benefits you are entitled to. Without seeing an up-to-date SoA it's hard to say for certain, but you should be able to pay the basics on a low income/ benefits. Sadly basics doesn't include running two vehicles: unless the van is paying it's own way now you have to get rid of it. Same with luxuries like the internet - make them pay for themselves (surveys/ matched betting etc.) or cancel the contract.

I'm sorry I can't be more positive, but you have to pay for the roof over your head and simple food on the table and forget the rest for now. Once your OH finds work in another field you can reassess. He will have transferable skills - reliable, trustworthy, communication, numeracy, team work, well organised, dexterity, etc. - and the capabilities to learn new ones. :T
