Getting away from Virgin Media -Advice please

Options
Hi, my parents have asked me to research the possibility of getting away from Virgin Media for them (mainly to reduce monthly outgoings) and despite all my searching, I am now more confused than enlightened, so I wonder if someone with knowledge on these things can help.

currently they have with virgin media:

Tv (large pack) not sure of the monthly charge for this
phone line free with tv
medium pack broadband (£18.00 approx per month)

They make no / very little calls (use mobile minutes instead) so their monthly bill to VM is around £35-40 on average.

I have found a light user (BTbasic) scheme which they can get as receive Income support benefit. Previous occupant had BT, so there is a box/line etc. I have found sky offering 3 packs for 18.50 p/m plus BB for £5 p/m.
So by my reckoning:
BT line £4.50 p/m
Sky TV £18.50 p/m
Sky BB £5.00 p/m =Total monthly of £28.00
Sky talk freetime (no charge)

So can anyone tell me if i have got this completely wrong, ie my main concern is that BT may not allow the basic line with all these other things going on

Sky wouldn't be able to take over call charges for a BT basic line I believe so you wouldn't be able to have sky talk freetime

It was my understanding that bt basic couldn't support broadband although I may be wrong

Light user scheme couldn't support broadband. BT basic I believe can

    Hi Wolfsbayne,

davethorp is correct there, BT basic does support broadband

Thanks all for your responses. Unfortunately BT have told them that they would have to pay a connection charge despite there being a line and socket already in place, so it would not be cost effective as they would have an intial layout of around £140 (including sky connection fee as well)
Looks like they are stuck with VM after all. It just irks them as VM broadband is one of the most (if not the expensive broadband suppliers at £18 per month for 2mb)

I phoned virgin media... pressed the option on the menu when they answer your call to say you want TO LEAVE virgin...
when they answer you tell them that you think that you are paying too much, and that unless they reduce cost you will leave.... "they will then knock off money just to keep you as a customer.. I got £24 knocked off when I did it... so it is well worth the call to their free phone number... let us know how you get on...

tell them that you had a leaflet through the door offering new customers... £24 tv, bb and phone... as I have just received this leaflet:rotfl:
