........some programs may not respond
Occasionally i get this message. I have deleted old files, uninstalled programs i dont use, have saved my pictures onto cd and have re-fragged the computer and every time i am finished with the computer, i delete browsing history.
Does this mean my hard drive is full or does it mean i need more memory, i think its had a dimm fitted a while back, not sure of size.
If its a new hard drive i need, can the old info be transferred to the new?
It is a Packard Bell computer intel celeron, approximately 10 years old running on xp i dont know much else.

crikey
Thats a slow processor
You need more RAM for sure (Id recommend 1 gig or more, but your computer might have a limit of 0.75):idea:0 -
it is a dinosaur of a computer, but it does me well until i get the windows virtual memory message coming up.
It had a dimm module fitted a while back, not sure if theres another slot to put another one into, shall i take it to pc world for them to have a look? Surely cheaper than buying a new computer?? ThanksAnd yes the lady in the avatar is me

well I sure as hell wouldnt take it to PC World. Theyre the LAST people id take it to
Id suggest getting a friend round who might know how to do it, or take to a local highstreet computer repair shop. (Or you can tackle it yourself if you feel upto it?):idea:0 -
Add 512Mb to your system paging file. It wont make they system go any faster but it will probably get rid of the warning message.
See here for how to do it:

If you dont want to use the autoguide scroll down for manual instructions.
Adding more memory would be best.0 -
I'm willing to bet that PC world wouldn't even have old SDR dimms. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0

0.5 gig of ram is too slow. You need at LEAST 1 gig for xp to run ok
I highly doubt its 3.3 Ghz cpu either. Do you not mean 2.2 or even 1.3?:idea:0 -
Rik that's physical memory not vitual memory....;)
OP needs Hit windows key and Pause/Break then click the Advanced tab...
Where it says Performance, click settings and click Advanced Tab.
At the bottom it will say Virtual Memory, click Change.
Click on the C: drive and click where it says custom size. Type 1000 in the two boxes, click OK then apply and so on and so forth, may need to reboot.....To travel at the speed of light, one must first become light.....0
