Is a 2000 Rover 25 1.4ie worth £1,795?

I've searched reviews, and got completely contradictory responses - some people love this car, others deride it. Of course, the seller's telling me it's great, and the price does seem pretty good compared to others currently on sale on Autotrader, etc., considering it's got just 45,000 miles on the clock. It's from a small local trader, 26 years in the same location - who seems a nice guy and will provide after sales care and servicing. So I thought I would ask the great MSE forums to see what people make of the deal and the car?

    Go to your nearest newsagents and look in Parkers Car Price guide book, search for the car you mention, it'll give you most of the info youneed to make a decision. Only tip I would offer you is get any after sales warranty in writing, good luck.

    Depends on what sort of warranty he is offering (but sounds too high).

    What's the mileage on yours, @lill?

    @Hintza: it's a three month warranty - sound reasonable?

    And since Parker's says £1,545 for average mileage of 80,000, I was thinking £1,795 reasonable for almost half that mileage. Or am I wrong?

    Bear in mind that at the moment the price the dealer advertises at is a price to start negotiating from.

    Seems pricey to me. Heres one with just 38K miles for £999

    Surely it makes MORE sense to open up the nearest grid and pour £1795 into it?

    I just bought a vw golf 1.6 for £1000, W reg (2000), 107k on the clock though, not sure if this was a good deal but but I would pick Golf over a Rover!

    I would shop around a little more!

    Although I do know how maddening the process off buying a car is - I found it a minefield, in the end I just went with my gut instinct as I know nothing about cars!

    it's at least £800 over priced. has the headgasket been done? at that age it will be on its way out. these things are known for blowing gaskets. save your money and buy anything other than a rover. these things were built to a price, not to quality control
