good advertising or just showing off?

i have been pondering in getting personal number plates for my 2 work vans,

do you think this would be a good bit of advertising/talking point etc or would it be classed as just showing off?

my vans are sign written anyway, but i dont know why but when i see other business vans that have personal no. plates, i allways seem to remember them.

what do you think?

I wouldn't - but from a cost rather than advertising v showing off point of view.

Personalised number plates are a nice touch - by no means essential but they are a talking point and clients do remember them.

Remember that a number plate doesn't have a set value, it is only worth as much as a broker can get for it. A business I worked for got a cold call from a broker trying to sell a plate for £1000. Two months later the broker still couldn't sell it so they were prepared to offload it for £50!

i have seen some number plates that are on-line and there is a car locally for sale, with a suitable number plate.

i know its not essential, but as you say its a talking point, thats why i thought it might be showing off..lol, but if it get people and clients talking about my business, and remembering it, that thats got to be good adertising too.:D

You need all the publicity you can get and I don't see it in the slightest showing off - just good business sense.

    I say go for it.:j

I agree its a good idea and great promotional work for you. Its not something I come across often when Im on my travels, many vans etc just have signs etc so would definately make you stand out from the rest.

I wouldnt say its showing off, its just good business head doing your best to get people remembering your name - showing off would be having a statue named after you lol

Just make sure your vans aren't noticed for the wrong reasons. If I ever need a loft conversion, I won't be using the company which has at least one van which doesn't know better than to park on yellow lines on the corner while the lads go to the chip shop, when there is perfectly adequate parking a few yards away!

There are a few vans around Cardiff that have personalised number plates, I've noticed when been sat in traffic jams. I remember thinking at the time 'oh that's clever the no plate is the same as the business' - but ask me now the name of the Company and I can't remember. So does is it a good marketing/advertising strategy - clearly not in my case LOL!!!

On private motors, it can be a bit show off, but on business vehicles i think it is very good. There are a few around my area ie a driving instuctor has:

    PA55 EDD (PASSED D) - i like that one!!

and you'll not forget this one:

LMAO!! for the above number plate thats the best and what a great promotional tool.

Another comment when you say about careful where you park ect. The other one is to make sure you keep your vans/cars clean! Theres nothing worse than driving past a white van that has "clean me please" wrote on the side by some teenager on their way to school!

Funny you should say that as I walked past a filthy white van yesterday that was delivering what looked like a business buffet lunch into a town centre building. UGH, UGH and UGH.
