Well, we're only a few months away from having to go cap in hand to the IMF, so economic policy will be decided by them for years to come. As an economic basket case, we'll have no say in fiscal policy for a decade.

Don't forget 80%+ of all legislation is set by Brussels, so Barroso runs Britain's social programme to all intents and purposes.

Whoever is in No.10 will be caught between the IMF and the EU, rubber stamping their diktats. I've no idea why we bothered defending these islands against National Socialism from 1939 to 1945.

I probably won't even bother, all three major parties stand in the elections where I live. Yet only 2 (labour and lib. dem.) bother to campaign and I will not vote for those that do not bother, in 24 years the tories have only sent 2 leaflets and I don't even know the name of the guy who stands.

Although the tories look like they'll win the next election, I still wonder how many silent labour voters are out there

    ...or even a rain check?

But I like your version more - it's more MSE.

Well The Americans spell Cheque as Check but

I thought one couldn't take an American expression and give it British English spelling?

I also think it is time people voted for something other than the two "usual suspects" to shake them out of their complacency....
For me the Lib Dems are a non-option, as I can see first hand how bad things would be under them as they are making a right hash of running my local council. Labour used to run the local council before that and it was very bad, but the Lib Dems have managed to make things even worse. Their arrogance is astonishing.

How many peoples vote actually make a difference. Like a lot of constituencies mine is Tory always has been and probably always will be but they are the last party I would vote for and I expect there are plenty of Tories in Labour strongholds.

They won't get in either because of:

    - the inequities of the electoral system

    or

    - they don't get enough votes

Most Lib Dems believe the first answer IME. The rest of us the second.

And because they have proved to be useless at running local authorities they would be useless in government.

I believe it's both. A fairer electoral system would give them a bigger say, but wouldn't be enough to get them anywhere near power.
