We naturally want a cheap holiday but want to avoid US Airways as they're TERRIBLE!
7 days inc flights and accom for about £600 is our budget.
EDIT - £600 EACH, so £1200 for flights and accom in total. Flying from Manchester, ideally.
£600 each does not cover spending money - just flights and accom each.
Any tips?
Thanks

Flight wise Air New Zealand from LHR to LAX will probably give you the best experience; with June only being a matter of weeks away I would say your best trawling say the Daily Telegraph/Daily Mail travel page adverts (or their online sites) for any deals from the big Agencies like Trailfinders, Travelbag etc.
Personally, I think you have left it too late to get a good deal booking flights independently of accomodation, but good luck anyway!0 -
For flights, my recommendation would be expedia.co.uk. I have found all my american flights there and in the past have gotten return flights to LA in June for £190. Usually what I do is find the cheapest flights via expedia and then book them directly on the relevant airline's website to avoid the expedia surcharge - although sometimes expedia has exclusive fares that you can't get through the airline's site.
Also expedia doesnt really help you find cheaper flights on other days or to other, near airports so you generally have to just search for loads of different date and airport combinations to find the cheapest. That £190 flight to LAX was via San Francisco, while the exact same flight with San Francisco as the final destination - i.e. without the extra leg from San Fran to LAX - was £100 more expensive. Go figure? But it shows you how messing around with combinations can save.
As for accomodation, decent budget motel accomodation in California is really easy to get and really cheap. If you are willing to stay in travelodge(UK) style accomodation, i.e. very clean, comfortable but no frills, then you can easily get rooms for $30-$40 a night outside the big cities. Motels may make you think of dodgy dingy Bates Motel style places, but they are actually nearly all chains and they all have a very high standard of cleanliness. The cheapest motel chain is Motel 6. I dont think I can post links but you can google it.
Inside the cities, you can still get reasonable accomodation cheaply. In LA, I would recommend the Travelodge(U.S. travelodge) on Vermont/Sunset. Its usually around $80 a night for 2 people and is within 20 minutes walking distance of Hollywood and in a nice, buzzing upscaleish neighbourhood. It's also right beside a red line subway station. Just remember that Travelodge in America is not the same company as Travelodge in the UK, so you need to find the American website.0
