My norton internet security sub runs out on Monday. I have McAfee to replace it. Has anyone any tips about the best way to uninstall and install the replacement. I seem to remember someone else having a problem when trying to disable Norton

Personally I wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole for exactly the reason you specify. It's notorious for leaving parts of itself behind when trying to uninstall. Also, it's a bloated piece of software that uses large resources and can cause conflicts with other applications.
My advice is to run the uninstall and hope for the best. If you get problems, post on here and we'll try and resolve. Good Luck!0 -
Why noy one of the very good free anti virus software? AVG is what i use.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Norton should uninstall ok from Add/Remove programs, you need to remove Liveupdate seperately
if it fails there are removal tools here

Best not to instal McAfee IMO! The only thing I found worse then Nortons is McAfee. AVG is very good indeed!"...So...we've got a drop off, a double-cross, an ambush and then what?...then they shot a tramp..." :rotfl: [High Heels and Low Lifes]0

Thanks for all the advice. It all seemed to go very well. I was abit disapointed that the McAfee didn't come with a firewall but I'm happy with Zone Alarm.
Thanks again

Colcoops,
Mcafee Firewall only comes bundled with Mcafee's Internet Security Suite. If you didn't have this, the only other option is to buy it separately.
But as you pointed out quite rightly, Zonealarm's firewall is more than adequate as a replacement0
