Changing from Norton to McAfee

My norton internet security sub runs out on Monday. I have McAfee to replace it. Has anyone any tips about the best way to uninstall and install the replacement. I seem to remember someone else having a problem when trying to disable Norton
TIA

Personally I wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole for exactly the reason you specify. It's notorious for leaving parts of itself behind when trying to uninstall. Also, it's a bloated piece of software that uses large resources and can cause conflicts with other applications.

My advice is to run the uninstall and hope for the best. If you get problems, post on here and we'll try and resolve. Good Luck!
  • Why noy one of the very good free anti virus software? AVG is what i use.

Norton should uninstall ok from Add/Remove programs, you need to remove Liveupdate seperately

if it fails there are removal tools here

You can find Norton's own removal software here. Make sure you follow the instructions correctly.

Should I install McAfee before deleting Norton?

Best not to instal McAfee IMO! The only thing I found worse then Nortons is McAfee. AVG is very good indeed!

Thanks for all the advice. It all seemed to go very well. I was abit disapointed that the McAfee didn't come with a firewall but I'm happy with Zone Alarm.
    Thanks again

  • Colcoops,

Mcafee Firewall only comes bundled with Mcafee's Internet Security Suite. If you didn't have this, the only other option is to buy it separately.

But as you pointed out quite rightly, Zonealarm's firewall is more than adequate as a replacement :)
