selling car on ebay?

I am thinking of selling a car on Ebay the value being around £1,500.

Wanted to know what your experiences are of selling via ebay as opposed to local paper.

Will I expect to get a lot less at this kind of auction?

Also whats the best payment method?

Is there anything I need to be mindful of before listing it on Ebay?

Thanks

I've heard very good things said about the site http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/ but this is more geared (no pun intended) for car enthusiasts. Also www.gumtree.com has had some good things said about it too. The best thing about these two sites is that listings are FREE but on Pistonheads you can choose to pay tp upgrade your listing.

Apparently the most popular (in terms of sales and listings) site for selling cars is www.autotrader.com but you have to pay for ads on that.

Oh thanks - I thought you would encourage me to do paypal - what's the problem with it?

With Paypal you can be charged back for the item by the buyer so it can get you in a very messy situation.

State on your auction that you want cash on pick up and you should be fine.

I see what you mean. If the car has problems after they bought it they can claim their money back. Sounds like a nightmare. Ok cash only. Cheers.

You'll be fine, you'll read alot of bad stories on here about Ebay but that's only because people normally only comment if they've had a bad experience. Good luck on selling it.

All the usual rules about selling a car privately apply regardless of where you sell.

Only take cash or a bank draft, and only let the car go when you have either paid the money in over the counter or had the draft verified (i.e. it's not a fake).

I've sold cars on Ebay & Pistonheads - if you sell on Ebay, make sure you set a reserve!

More worrying than that actually, they can even colelct the car and claim they haven't received it and paypal will refund them in full.
