Have you tried going to My Ebay Messages then on left hand side select contact us and then tell them what has happened. You may find that ebay will sort this for you0

MyUserNamesTaken wrote:If you look at the negative feedback she's been left, one of her buyers complains about postage costs. She replies that the item is being sent from another country. Either she's selling items she does not have in her possession (against ebay rules), or she's giving out false contact details.
Had you not considered that it could have been the buyer that may have been outside the UK?0 -
I am sorry to hear the trouble your mum has had. From my own experience I have found most Ebayers to be genuine and decent. However ,some are NOT very pleasant and are RUDE! Has your mum tried to contact ebay by email or phone to explain the situation? Has she lost much money? She can always regester again as a new ebayer and start afresh.
Again from my own experience most ebayers are very good with you if you have made some sort of mistake AND IMMEDIATELY explain and suggest a remedy. The secret is to communicate and explain. But you will always get the few unpleasant individuals!!

unfortunately if you want to participate in ebay selling and buying you do need to abide by the rules and regs that appertain to ebay.
waiting for 8days would violate the rules also it only takes minutes to open a paypal account.0 -
Post from overseas issue - if you check the detail of Item number: 8390707156 you will see it states "We ship airmail from the Far East". What does alarm me a little is that that text below the photo with the Lacoste logo is not text but within the image (you can't cut/paste the text).
Points of concern about the seller
- lots of trades in a short space of time (only joined eBay on 7th Jan 06), suggests full-time trader - disappearance may be HMRC avoidance tactic??
- no fewer than 11 of 175 feedbacks left by this seller are negative claiming non-receipt of payment - and all against buyers with feedback below 15 and thus assumed newbies. This is a very high proportion and action like this against newbies not nice either. Combination would make me avoid this seller
- if you right-click any link or image, you get "Cheeky! these are my pics!" dialog box, which is part of the listing _submitted by this seller_, presumably to stop you attempting to rip off their photos. If you dig into the HTML code behind the page, these photos are hosted on PhotoBucket and the username there is USERFORMELYKNOWNASWHIPPY - which, spelling apart, makes you think that identity changing could be a trend...
Advice to your mum - ditch this eBay id and start again. Get PayPal - it makes life on eBay so simple. All part of life's learning process, I suppose. If she gets anything back, then well done!

Thank you all for so much advice, it's all very interesting and I hope that we've all learned something. Thanks to jpjp too for the investigative work!
As for the Paypal account, she just doesn't want one. She's new to the internet and doesn't want her bank details online... I know, I know, I've explained that paying for things online is pretty common practice these days but she's adamant!
As for breaking the rules by waiting eight days. I think that like many people, she got a pc for the first time and headed to ebay as it's so well known. She's been honest and apologetic to both the seller and ebay about her mistake. The seller hasn't reported her for waiting eight days but is saying that she didn't receive the postal orders.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
Have you tried going to your Mother's my messages and on the left hand side you will see a contact us and then give ebay all the details and ask for their help0

Others have probably exhausted this a bit by now, but :-
1. Worth checking with her local Post Office if the PO has been cashed. They centralise these details in Chesterfield (and last I heard still had them on microfiche) - so it will likely take a few days. In the unlikely event the original is still not cashed - tell her to recover her money and leave it at that!
2. Not a good idea to resurrect this transaction. The seller majored in material shipped direct from the 'Far East' - and likely fake. So I'd be suspicious of anything from that source - and certainly wouldn't rub it around my eyes!
3. Persuade your Mum to read anything on Ebay, she is tempted with, twice - and then again! Really digest the feedback from others and, particularly relevant in this case, look at what else the seller is offering. If still in doubt - move to a different seller of the tempting item!
4. But above all, once her burnt fingertips have cooled, persuade her to open a PayPal account. It's quite the opposite of having her 'bank details online'. The whole essence is that PayPal act as an intermediary and safequard your details from others you wish to pay. For a buyer - it's safe / very convenient - and free, provided you stick to purchases in £Sterling (their conversion rates on foreign transactions will add a mild premium to whichever type of card you open your Account with). But whilst I agree with one of the replies that 'it only takes a day to open an Account' - I doubt it's useable in that timeframe. I suspect they still make a 'pseudo' charge as you open the Account. In order to post a code onto your Debit / Credit card account - which you have to retrieve and key back into PayPal to enable the Account. So this needs doing several days before you wish to use PayPal - and longer if you can't view your Credit / Debit card online and need to wait for a Statement to retrieve the code.
5. Finally - 'can you pay using your PayPal account'? Not really wise if your Mum makes the purchase as you will create an address conflict for the seller. Who, in the main, will sensibly insist on posting to the purchaser address registered with Ebay - for the avoidance of potential fraud. Better, if your Mum really rebels against PayPal, that you both buy and pay! Then only leaves you the problem of explaining why you missed a purchase - and getting the parcel to her for the successful ones!
6. If all else fails - unplug her PC. Pleased my Mum does knitting - not Ebay.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
She won't get negged now as the user can't access this particular ebay account. The user sold 180 items since 6 Jan. Probably sold all he/she had and closed account and will in all probability open a new account in the next few weeks and start again.
The problem being that those people such as your mum who have paid and not received, can't leave negative feedback or report this person to ebay.
These people should be lined up and shot as they get the rest of us who sell responsibly on Ebay a bad press!
I would echo other comments on here and tell your mum to open a Paypal account, not only are you covered by their "insurance" but if you pay by some visa cards you're covered by them under the purchase fraud insurance.
