Help! CPW 02 are refusing Pac codes for an existing contract

Hi there!
this might be standard (not changing phones often, I am a bit out of the loop!) but I have had an existing phoneline with T-Mobile that is about to end. Alongside that I have an O2 contract (run through CPW) which expires in Feb 2010...tried to get the PAC code to give to CPW to take the T-Mobile number over and they have refused...said I can only start a new contract and transfer the number....is there anything I can do? Are they allowed to do this?

Some networks only accept PAC codes within the first month of the contract. I'm not sure if O2 is one of them. As such, you may have missed the window in which you could transfer your number.
  • Why are you trying to get O2 to give you a PAC code? And yes, they would be correct. You can only give an operator a PAC code when you start the contract.

Money-Grabber. Read OP again. S/he wants to transfer from T-mob to O2, so the PAC code obviously came from T-mob, not O2.

Also, I have transferred my number to an existing T-mob contract in the past after a considerable time. I admit I don't know if they still do this or not. Certainly O2 and Voda seem to be much tighter.
  • Yep but if you read the title, it looks like they're trying to do it the other way round!

EDIT: Yea but having re-read the title again, I now understand what was meant. I mis-interpreted the title!

The title seems alittle unfair on CPW to be honest (for once)

As far as i know you can only port into CPW 02 at the beginning of a contract not not 2-3 months into one like this,

Really all depends what was asked at the begining when the contract was taken out though, where you told you could port in later or was this even asked.

If it is a CPW o2 contract it will have been taken out prior to Oct 2007 and the current contract term will likely be an upgrade.

Anyway, what they said is correct. You can't port your T-Mobile number in at this stage of the contract. If you want to change your existing CPW o2 contract your only option is to change the number through customer services.

Does anyone know of a way to do this? My wife's 3 contract is ending soon and I've a year to run on a CPW o2 contract which she uses as a spare phone atm.

Want to move 3 number to o2, would prob raise tarrif to a higher one (currently paying £5 for £25 tarrif). Can't see any reason why it's not possible.

What apart from the reason that they don't allow you to do it?! I'd have thought that was a good enough reason!:D

o2 directly allow you to port in at any time. It more than likely to be down to CPW.

Thanks to everyone for replying to this post...and apologies to those that I confused with my wording...I was a little annoyed at the time of posting and have since even been to Ofcom about the matter. Apparently there is nothing that can be done or enforced. Mobile operators are unable to prevent customers from leaving, and therefore are obliged to provide a PAC code but new providers are not forced to take on the customer, and therefore do not have to take the PAC code. Bit peeved, and I do not think there is anything I can do now apart from let the contract run to its expiry and then refuse anything to do with CPW in the future!
