For £1.99 per month you can choose to have a local rate 0845 number. This allows people to call you from landlines at local call rates no matter where they are in the UK

Which, of course, they (we) can do to an 01 or 02 number anyway.

And we can do it for less than that using 1899 ......
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

After looking at a lot of suppliers the offer from voipfone seems good. Lots of options for additional features and just a one time charge of £4.99 for the 0800 number. What do you guys think?

The numbers cost £4.99 per month not a one off charge (inc. VAT). Calls to the number will be charged to your account at 3p per minute (inc. VAT).
Then you will be charged for the divert even to your own number.Better to have 0800 terminated on your own number.

yup you guys are right. I missed the "per month" thing at the last line in the pop up. Guess i should keep looking or go for a 0845 number which i hate.

Your not going to get any cheaper on 0800 then Free Connection ,No Line Rental, Free Golden Number, calls at 3.5p a minute are you?

You can pick up a 0845 number for free but i would not advocate the use of one.
