Hi All,

I am starting a new business. Want to get a 0800 number since i dont want to give out a geographic number as it might change and hate the 0870 numbers.

Can you guys let me know where i can get the best 0800 number that I can change where it is diverted to and should be able to divert to mobiles.

If any of the gurus have any other suggestions like using a VOIP service like Vonage or anything pl. let me know.

Appreciate the help

You do realize that you will have to pay for the calls that you receive on the 0800 number?

The number would piggy back on to your existing georaphical number, and with the assistance of call divert you can divert to whereever you choose.

Look at Call08.com for 0800 numbers (not 0845 though). For £4.95 per month you get inclusive 800mins per month and any calls you receive over the 800mins a month then you only get charged 2ppm thereafter.

I believe this is good value especially if you don't anticipate receiving the 800mins per month in incoming calls. Even if you do get over 800mins in incoming calls each month then only 2p/min thereafter I believe is good value.

I do ad hoc computer maintainence, and one of my customers supplies 0800 and 0845 numbers, I think 0845 are free to you and charges to the callers are something like 3.8p per minute, they also offer call answering services.

Note - other than doing ad hoc work for them I have no other financial or other interest in the company. Good customer who pays my bills very promptly. I like that.

    Have a look at

After looking at a lot of suppliers the offer from voipfone seems good. Lots of options for additional features and just a one time charge of £4.99 for the 0800 number. What do you guys think?

Not a one off charge - note 'per month'

    from their website 0800

"Numbers cost £4.99 per month (inc. VAT). Calls to the number will be charged to your account at 3p per minute (inc. VAT)."

    and 0845

For £1.99 per month you can choose to have a local rate 0845 number. This allows people to call you from landlines at local call rates no matter where they are in the UK
