over to a 0% deal which i was telling them i was going to do . then they offered to move over balance to virgin and increase limit as i was on a 0% deal there. i thought this was great. why is there so much doubt in what i am saying? i DO know what i was told. thanks .

    Deals, apologies.

I am a little unsure - did they transfer your credit limit from one crad to another or the balance?

Well thats it then. They moved the balance from one MBNA card to another MBNA card. That doesn't qualify for a 0% offer. That is why you are being charged interest because there is no 0% offer between MBNA Cards.

sounds like they just moved the debt from one card to another, and they would never give you the 0% on the transfer because both cards are from the same issuer (MBNA)
    please just thank me:p

I dont doubt you at all Deals, I just dont see how the person you spoke to managed to do this. As far as I know, it is possible to move a credit limit from one card to another, but only if the card being moved has a zero balance. - Obviously someone has found a way round this.

I apologise for this, but one last question (which is the only other possibility I can think of) - is this a very old Abbey card (or fairly newish) - and has the card number changed at all recently (from 4129.... or 5186.... to something like 51200.... or 4222....) Dont worry about posting these up, first 4/5 just identify the bank.
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

but i imagine the card previous to this. Well then it looks like they did something that they should NOT have done/offered. I had already selected another 0% credit card to move over to at the time so THERE IS NO WAY with being a moneysaving person that i woudl have moved from one card of interest to another !!!!!!!! no point!!!! only point to move to another 0% card. seems logical to me and i am sure other moneysavers here.
I am in the process of doing all of my accounts at the moment i dont know if i am unlucky or what but i have just seen taht they have suddenly sneaked in interest on my barclaycard too when i have a deal until October 2009 , am on direct debit and not used in any way to purchase too. this is a joke. i seem to spend my time sorting out crap . i just want a life not dealing with this crap. I would like to know if I am the only person here experiencign this. thanks in advance. if you need more details on the credit card from abbey let me know but not sure what that will actually achieve!! thanks though.
is there not an amount we can claim for the stress and time i waste sorting this out and of course money i have to find in the meantime too when i am tryign to get everything sorted!!!

These are all the things I seem to be fighting for:
    Virgin credit card issue
    now barclaycard issue
Insurance - who wont pay up and dont seem to admit that we did actually have a snow storm and it DID cause damage as it did to 3 other people in our town and the same insurance company + one another are saying the opposite.
02 I write 3 times to get a name on a phone changed over and after twoing and throwing now they want to chat on the phoen about it!!! what a waste of a life.

    Hi Deals.

Although it may not be a Abbey Zero, depending how old the account is, it may be possible that Abbey bought the account back when Santander took them over - they bought alot of the accounts back from MBNA.

Having said that, this would only explain how the transfer may have been possible, it doesnt explain why you are being charged interest on the account.

The balance was 'moved' from Abbey (to clear) to Virgin (increased limit) correct? The balance was moved more than 60 days after the Virgin account had been opened, correct? Now look here as to what the Virgin card (in common with most or all MBNA backed cards) offers customers...
    0%
on balance transfers for 16 months*
Rate applies to transfers made in the first 60 days.

Maybe this is the real reason you are being charged interest?

Still doesnt answer how it was acheieved. If it was an Abbey card issued by MBNA, it isnt (or shouldnt be) possible to transfer the balance between cards - although this appears to have happened above.

Look at this way, if someone owed you £100, would you borrow them another £100 so they could pay back the original £100.

This is essentially what would have happened if Abbey MBNA and Vigin MBNA transferred balances between them

Perhaps, the OP has an Abbey/Santander card (as opposed to an Abbey/MBNA one), as you suggested above. That would seem to be the most likely explanation.
