Recording from PVR to VHS

Can it be done?

Have recently bought a PVR and a number of times have raved to someone about a show they have missed and been unable to say 'I'll lend you the video' as we used to in the 'old days.'

My understanding of it is that a VCR records from its own analoge tuner not actually from the TV itself, though I think I've heard of people taping from their DVD to VHS (or is that the otherway round) Im confusing myself now.

If it is possible is it simple?

Thanks, Alison

I can do it with my PVR just run a scart lead from PVR to VHS recorder.

You don't say what make of PVR you have. I own an Inverto and it has an archive feature which transfers at the press of a button.
However assuming you have a scart out on your PVR then just run it to scart in on the VHS recorder and that's it. Although you may want to burn record onto a disc on a DVD recorder (again through a scart lead) as few people have VHS recorders now.

As above, see if your PVR has 2 SCARTs. The 2nd one can be connected to your VCR if it has 2. Tune the VCR to an AV channel, and record.
Otherwise your VCR may have yellow (composite) white and red inputs - and your PVR may have these outputs too, or you can get a scart to composite adaptor. Take a look at the back of your devices and let us know how you get on...

DO PVR then record from a vhs tape?
i am looking to get a PVR recorder and also have some old vhs tapes i would like to be converted to dvd. Question is do i need to spend money for a dvdv with HD or can i get away with just a PVR?
If it is possible to record a vhs to a PVR is it then possible to transfer the record to pc for editing?

Yes you can record VHS to PVR by utilising the scart connections.

To transfer your old tapes to DVD you will need a DVD recorder. Transferring them from VHS onto the PVR means you will still need to put them onto DVD. It would seem more obvious to do this directly from the VHS to the DVD rather than going via the PVR.

If you have the necessary connections (presumably phono/RCA leads) then you could copy to your PC from a VHS recorder or a PVR or a DVD player.

    thanks bob

i take it when u mention phono/RCA leads u prob still need to runa capture programe on the pc, as these files even if stored on the DVD recorder harddrive or the pvr harddrive are not simple avi or video format files.

so if in need of editing i am probably better to transfer to dvd and then rip for editing on a pc

Yes, both the above are correct.
