Help - Overdue MOT!

I have taken my eye off the ball, been away with work for two weeks, back late last night. Thought my MOT certificate was up on the 28th of April, but checked this morning and it was the 18th of April. As I've been away I've not been driving the car, will I still get fined? I'll take the car for it's MOT tomorrow morning first thing to the local garage. Can't believe I got the date wrong, this has never happened before!
Anyone else missed their MOT date - what happened? Ta!

There's nothing illegal about owning a car without an MOT. It's also legal to drive the car to a garage for a pre-booked MOT.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -

Hi.
Mine was about ten days late last year, completely forgot the date.
They were fine at the garage, just said they would send a reminder in future

So long as your road tax is not up as well and you have not been pulled or otherwise caught in an agency check for it, you will almost certainly be fine.
Get it done ASAP.0 -
Thanks for your replies! Don't feel like a criminal anymore

As benjus pointed out, you can only drive it from your home to a garage where you have Pre-Booked the MOT.
If you get caught on camera driving, it will flag your car. As long as you can show your route to the garage (and aren't taking a detour to Devon for the weekend) you are okay.
Your proof will consist of the garage confirming the MOT was booked before you drove the car on the road, and you were caught between your home and the garage.0 -
I MOT'd my car a full month late earlier this year due to a combination of absent-mindedness and sheer laziness.0

its a £60 fine if you get pulled0
