Now property sales are rising - the best feeling of owning your first home

Not sure these days where to put property posts so thought I'd paste and copy this onto here too.

It's been all over the news this morning, and in the papers that house sales have gone up by 12% in the last month and that sales are up by 20% since this time last year.

Obviously, the property market is slowly starting to recover as was expected by many (except the ones who were hoping people would have to give them away! LOL)

One quarter of the buyers are first timers and it must be so exciting for them to know that they've finally managed to get on the first rung of the property ladder, and that they're on their way to owning their very own home!

When we first married many years ago and found our first real home it was a mixture of excitement and nervousness. We did struggle at the beginning, we had bare floorboards for a couple of years - strange how they're trendy now HA HA! and then we got wall to wall carpeting and felt like we were millionaires!

Every little thing we did to our house was so gratifying and exciting. Deciding on which colours to paint it, wallpaper patterns, plants for the garden. I remember our first party too when it was finally done up after about 3 years. We invited all our family, friends and neighbours and had a fab party and oh how we swooned over our avocado bathroom suite!!LOL Seems funnt to look back on, but boy, buying your first home is the best feeling in the world!

You're right, it is a great feeling when you move into the first house that you 'own' (although there is usually the considerable side issue of a mortgage!). Mine was a tiny one bed house on a dodgy council estate. Every bank holiday monday there'd be a mini-riot as the locals couldn't cope with an extra day of excessive drug and alcohol intake.

Things are definitely improving in the housing and credit markets but we are still a very long way from a position where house prices can rise (70,000+ sales, mortgage lending increasing at 5%+ pa).

I have no idea why GMTV are running today's main story as "Property Market Is Recovering" but there you have it.

Oh dear, you didn't catch the budget then did you, oh well to summarise...... the UK is in deep !!!!!!, that will likely trample any green shoots in the housing market that you are likely to see. It looks like you don't post much......... come back in 3-4 months to see the folly of your post.

A -3.5% in GDP this year at least and a likely negative next year as well means the 'recovery' in the housing market is someway off, house prices don't recover in a recession.

Well ironically, all that Government borrowing is going to crowd out funds available for mortgage lending as well as those available for investment.

    Generali,

You unfortunately made a bad choice choosing to buy on a rundown council estate. Can't help you there mate...choices and all that, you know.........

Generali lives near Sydney, Australia, so not your average council estate, so as with the rest of your post, you are in fact miles out............ about 11,000 I think.:D

Just to edit................ sockpuppet alert everyone.

Well our first (and only) house purchase was on a nice estate in a good part of the town.

I now live in social housing.....

By the way, not complaining, it's my birthday and I am not in a complaining mood!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

I didn't see this news item but I would be very sceptical of such a statement. My feeling is that most of these purchases will be property investors mopping up re-possessions. I certainly don't see a recovery in the property market any time soon.
I agree with your feelings on the first time purchase though. It almost equalled the euphoria of losing my virginity. er...almost! ;)

Rumbaba have you sold your house yet, or is all this wishful thinking? You have been in denial about price falls since last August, far as I can see.

House sales, by volume, have indeed gone up, and asking prices have also risen slightly, but that's just one side of the story, as you well know.

Personally, I shall be happy if this 'improvement' brings more property onto the market, but somehow I doubt if I'll be buying just yet. ;)

Do people realise that when they're moving into "their" house, it's just a big fat debt for the large majority of their working lives?

I'm in a cheerful mood today

To expand on my last post...

The excitement of owning our own home was amazing, at last we could go to our front door naked if we wanted to, we could paint in a colour of our choosing, we could have a pet, we had a garden to tend to and put washing out in, we had a drive way and didn't have to battle with the other occupants for a parking space.

Of course, this was tempered with having to pay a mortgage but to be honest, we really didn't care....it was ours and we had choice.
