There are many reasons why some people should not have their teeth whitened as it may cause damage to teeth or gums, and many chemicals, techniques used by illegal whiteners such as beauticians that can cause irreversible damage.

Also indiscriminate use of abrasive whitening toothpastes can also cause damage.

If you want to whiten your teeth seek a dentists advice before doing anything.

I generally recommend Oral B/Braun toothbrushes to my patients and on here.

The top-end ones can be £150+ but have exactly the same head speed and action as the ones much further down the range. They just come with extra heads and timers and whistles and bells.

Aim to spend about £20-40 On one depending on what offers you can get (They're often on very good offers in Boots, Argos, Comet etc).

You only need one motor - everybody can have their own head, which come with different coloured bands so you can identify whose is who

Make sure you change the head frequently, like you would a toothbrush - and make sure you get genuine Oral B heads, beware of internet knock-offs. Again, the heads are frequently on good deals in Boots and supermarkets, so stock up when they are.

(And pleeeeaasse use fluoride toothpaste for your kids. It's the most important time when the teeth are young)
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

oh what a brilliant idea, i would never have thought of that, would also save on all the cluttering up.

thankyou for the advice, if you dont mind if i find a link would you let me know if its any good or not?

(kids teeth are all perfect so far, regular check-ups etc etc, if there are any problems i will certainly rethink ;))

hows this one, half price at the moment?

I would just like to say that I have started using the Colgate Max White toothpaste this week. 4 days in, using twice a day, and well, my teeth are obviously whiter! I had some severe staining in between my teeth (from using Corsadyl mouthwash many years ago) that I just could not get rid of. Now, the staining is very slightly visible, but greatly diminished and my teeth look a lot better overall. I think I will be using this once a month for a week just to brighten things up a little and go back to my trusty sensodyne the rest of the time. I can't stop smiling now!
