At least there are services available in the "self-service" branch for people who are able to use the machine - a lot better than closing the branch completely. I would assume they have staff floating around anyway to help people who aren't able to use the machines (as happens in my local branch).
  • Natwest let you withdraw whatever is in your account. I turned up the other day for £15k and they were fine about it. Thats is about the only thing they are good for. Service is usually rubbish.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.

But why?! Once again I despair at HSBC... why bother having two branches when offering the normal range of facilities (i.e. counters and machines) at just one would suffice? This only causes addition confusion for customers, and annoyance. HSBC seems to go the opposite of NatWest - whilst they seem to force customers to use machines (including the elderly) - or at least make it as difficult as possible to deal with a real person - NatWest branches usually have a noticable lack of machines in-branch and instead lots of cashier positions availble.

i support HSBC in that the majority of transactions that I make in branch can be done at the machines. What annoys me is:

a> That each time this week I've taken £500 out of my Egg Money (Using HSBC cash machine) to put in my current account, the note pay-in machine has rejected one of the notes

b> The inconsistency of the machines branch to branch - while the ones in London you just put in your card, one in my local branch requires a paying in slip to be brought in with the cash!

That's fairly weird, as ATM-fit notes should be OK for the paying-in machine (there is actually a fun feature of these Diebold paying-in machines, where we can take suitable notes straight out of the machine to put in the ATM...)

I know. The newer, Diebold machines which just take in heaps of notes with a card or account number are pretty damn good. My branch just has the older, Banking Automation ones where you put a paying-in slip and the cash in an envelope and leave it. It's a pain in the backside. ;)

I had this yesterday. The man said that even the smallest fold in the corner can make the machine reject a note. He suggested I make sure the corners weren't folded and try again. Tried again and it was accepted.
  • How on earth does having a machine out of service *help* migration figures?! :o
  • Taking cash notes out of one machine and feeding them into another:confused:

And here's me thinking we were in the 21st century;)

I call it "Faster Payments v0.1". Tried and tested - it never fails. Money is available in the account immediately, no waiting time, no loss of interest :)

Mine were both because the notes were marked - not a lot I can do about that!
