I fail to see how personal safety comes into this, would appreciate it if you could enlighten me on why your safety, through an email address, would be put at risk.
I'm all for empowering the consumer, but this is clearly another case of an over zealous MSEer, with nothing more constructive to do than kick up a fuss about something trivial.... what's next, litigation perchance?
@ Savvy Sue, I very much doubt that "all and sundy" would really be very interested on the well kept secret that is your email address. Unless of course, you don't happen to be the average Joe. An important, well known figure maybe? As to the irrelevant replies, I agree, that's the only reason why it might be feasible if the addresses were hidden.0 -
I recall you couldnt see the problem with peoples names and addresses being accessible online either from electoral role ,whilst its an issue the govt are changing the law on.People dont come on this site looking for sarcasm and wordy attempts at superiority.99% are helpfull.0

Back in 2004 a large number of Marbles credit card customers (HFC Bank) were sent an email in which they could see everyone elses email addresses. Everyone on the email list was "compensated" £50. My strategy would be to see if they were to pay the £50 (the "going rate"?) or threaten to contact the Information Commissioner. However I don't think there is anything they can actually do other than get the company to tighten up their procedures. See Data Protection Act Complaints0

Well I admit I'm with Hollydays on this one. Depending on the email address it would be fairly easy to track someone ... for example I would be very easily traced by a work email address. I have disposable anonymous web based email addresses which I use if I think there is any chance of it being posted publically.0
