Ebay/Paypal Claim

Hi

I recently sold an item on Ebay, the buyer then emailed me to say that the item was faulty and he demanded a full refund including postage costs within 24hours or he would contact Ebay/Paypal.
I know for a fact that the item was in full working order when it left me and it was well packaged in bubble wrap etc etc and sent by my usual courier, I have sent hundreds of items via this courier, I have feedback of nearly 500 and I have never had an item arrive broken with them.

Anyway a claim was escalated by the buyer as I refused to refund the item until I had it back, which I think is pretty standard ?

Now Paypal have agreed with the buyer that upon the return of the item in question to myself, return postage paid for by the buyer that I must refund the buyer for the full amount including postage costs.

I totally disagree with this as I know the item worked perfectly when I sent it.

Do I just shut up and issue the refund or can I take it further ?
The money does not bother me at all, as it is buttons it's the principle as I did state in my ad no returns

It is your responsibility for the item to be delivered to the buyer undamaged and stating no returns is more to do with returns because they changed their minds rather than because the item was damaged faulty.

It is not unknown for items to get damaged, but it also not unknown for buyers to try it on.

Do as paypal require and only refund when you receive the item, anything else and your on to a loser.

    Means diddly I'm afraid.

    I'd just refund upon receipt.

No returns is like waving a red rag to a bull imho. I know I ignore it completely and I understand a lot of scammers go looking for statements like that as it shows you are unaware of how paypal/ebay handles cases where the buyer complains.

Whilst I wouldn't say anything to the buyer if he doesn't return the goods by trackable means, Paypal will not get involved any further if he can't prove he has returned the goods.

You are a business seller and must therefore comply with the DSR's as interpreted by paypal and must also offer a full refund for faulty goods.

    Hi
Thank you for your message, I am not a business seller, just someone selling an item I no longer use

My mistake, I read this and assumed you were selling more than would seem applicable to a private seller just clearing odds and ends from their house.

I have sent hundreds of items via this courier,

So a private sellers isn't registered as a business. No drama is it?

No, no drama at all, why do you want it to be a drama?

No, but your usual "tone" is that of a tutting 50 something woman who disapproves of such criminal behaviour.

Are you suggesting then that the OP really is a business masquerading as a private seller? If that is your belief then yes I am happy to add the usual comments about making sure they are registered correctly.
