good/cheap woodland holiday location/suggestion please

After 3 years of hard work, me and my wife finally decided to take a break this year (probably just to stop us going mad  ). I want to treat her
for supporting me thru these hard years by taking her some place where she can relax/de-stress.
My wife like woods/forest type of settings. I want to take her somewhere nice and tranquil with lots of trees/mountain scenaries and a stream or canal might be a added feature . Could someone suggest any such place.
Since we are trying to come out of credit crunch and recession, any cheaper suggestions are welcome.
:TMany hearty thanks for all helping hearts.:T

Try forest holidays, they are all in forestry commission sites, and some have lovely log cabins to stay in.

:TThank you everyone for your enthusiastic suggestions.:T
To begin with, Greenface is right. I missed the crucial part.:o
Location: We live close to Luton.
Duration: As a taster sesion, i want to try in weekend or an extended one. But really, i want atleast a week for her to have a proper break.
When: Somewhere in Summer or even kind of end / autumn will be nice
Budget: Thats the most difficult part. Any reasonable / cheaper than usual / value for money / good bargain is ideal.
Coming to JoJoB and SusieB, First - Thanks to both of you for your suggestions.
Both your options are nice. i haven't come across them. So those are indeed something which i am considering. Locationwise i am still to explore.:A
More suggestion please. Thanks.:j0 -
get yourself into the breacons or the forest of dean (symmonds yat or cinderfoot) about 100 miles 2 hours drive but really a million miles and a few decades seek a decent b&b or log cabin watch the deers in the morning and the kites at dusk a beautful location and thats what calms me down:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

The new forest - forget every where else, this is the most gorgeous place.
So relaxing, it has horses and deers.
Try sandy balls or shorefields, you can camp, caravan or luxury lodges, depends on your budget really.
Hope you get sorted and yes your wife and you deserve a break, life is very stresssful. Enjoy0 -
Dingly dell?:D

Hi, a bit off topic but noticed you are fairly local to me, Henlow Grange Champneys do an offer where you can go in the evening for £10 (includes use of the pool, classes, steam and laconium rooms) and some treatments are available at reduced cost , they are tuesday evenings and I think the timings are 6 - 10pm. Might be a possibility for a relaxing treat at some point for your wife?0

Thanks Beyond Skint, i will certainly explore. Found the newforest website and hope to find some good deal.
Meanwhile Mum26, thanks for your pointer. I thought of that but we got a 4 yr old and my wife would probably be ready to miss me in the evening but not her daughter. I am trying to bring her out atleast during the weekends...But still no luck.
Thats why i am trying for a family weekend out....sort of to give her a taste of it.
Any suggestions?? btw, which one is cost efficient - B&B or caravan
[i dont know whether we are ready for camping, eventhough i would love it]0
