Hello people, curious to know if this is a fair charge by the LA (EDIT - Letting Agent):
Almost £90 to supply and fit a monoblock tap!
Checked on B&Q site and you can get one for £25, see THIS.
Am I being overcharged?
Thanks.

OK they actualy have a big book of jobs with codes and they all have prices.
Have you requested this change or is it a repair or following damage they consider deliberate?
You could try and get a plumber to fit it yourself and see how much that costs.0 -

Oh, I now understand our wires are crossed! I meant Letting Agent not local authority! :embarasse
Sorry!
I'll amend the OP.Tough times never last longer than tough people.0 -
This price is not unreasonable. Assume a tap is £25 at BandQ, leaves £65. It would normally take an hour minimum to go to said shop and purchase the tap.. Then go to property, assuming it all runs smoothly, park car, get tools out etc etc, change tap would be another hour.. Thats if hopefully no problems with turning water off and getting possible rusty bolts off.. i could go on.. there is plenty of things that can add the hours..
Take a surcharge out from the 65 for Letting Agent..
What would you do it for???? I think 90 is very fair.0 -
Thanks Munky, nice to see from someone else's point of view. Thought it was too high but coming round with your explanation. Thanks.Tough times never last longer than tough people.0

Yup - I'd say it's fair....
I'd have to look in our Schedule of Rates (SOR) for actual costs for that job, but I bet it'd come in close to that, if not more.
I remember as a rookie housing officer 15 years ago, how shocked I was that the SOR was £18 to change the barrel of a yale lock... then when it was explained to me - barrel costs, travel time, purchase time, tradesman's fees etc, it seemed reasonably cheap!!!Lightbulb moment - April 2007

I always thought the £9 extra for it being out of hours was reasonable!0

£90 sounds reasonable IF you have to pay for it at all. But why are you paying for a tap for a rented property? Repairs etc are the responsibility of the landlord and letting agent. Rental properties are supposed to have functioning taps! As poppysarah has said, you shouldn't have to pay anything unless (a) the previous tap was fine but you requested a change or (b) you were in some way to blame for the tap needing replacing.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Lydia.... Depends if the tenant has damaged the tap - if so, then it's perfectly reasonable to charge them.Lightbulb moment - April 2007
