Apologies if this is in the wrong place :-
Has anyone any suggestions about what to do about this .I have been complaining long and weary to my G.P. about a problem I have .Go to bed feeling fine but wake up feeling like c r a p and like a zombie. various things like blood tests have not shown anyhting so GP decides to refer me to a local hospital .Gets an appt't with the Consultants sidekick and goes over the story ..The Doc does a sort of examination ( which includes checking knee reflexes using a Stethoscope as he didn't have a hammer ...very impressed I was with that ) He finds an irregular heartbeat which I knew about .Had it for years and had two echocardiagrams which showed nothing untoward) ....arranged for loads of bloods, a chest X-Ray and a stool sample but also gave me a letter to get a scrip for Bisopropolol to slow down a fast pulse ...also muttered about the possibilty of needing to get Warfarin .
2 weeks on and I return .All bloods, chest X-Ray and stool sample are clear ...gives me a letter to my GP for Warfarin and discharges me from the Clinic.
Gets an appointment for a 24 Hr BP/Chest Monitor an also an Echocardiagram .These were completed today . The Cardiologist said that "all seems fine" .I wanted to talk to her about the Warfarin but she had no notes on me and said I would need to either speak to my GP or the Clinic Consultant I had been to !!!!!!!!!!!
I am really not happy about all this .Why discharge me if the monitors/echoc'gm had not been done . If I go to my GP I'll probably be told to ask the Hospital Clinic. Why did the Cardiologist not have my notes .Surely if anyone can answer about me using Bisoprolol and Warfarin a Cardiologist should. What I have read ,particularly about Warfarin makes me very reluctant to start taking it if it is not needed .
What do you suggest .Should I wait until the cardiologist has completed her report and it has gone back to the Clinic (as I presume it will ) and then write to the Hospital Secy outlining my concerns and asking to see the Consultant himself .
PS.Of course my original complaint was totally ignored and I am no further forward with it.

Personally I have no idea on how I would go about sorting this one, but any help and advice you get could be helpful to me as the hospital i was referred to for a knee injury ignored my problem and a letter from my GP who referred me and sent me home with crutches. Turns out my knee is actually in need of surgery!!

To be honest I don't know but personally I suspect it was "white coat syndrome" ...same as certain situations make your blood pressure rise .

To be fair, your symptoms are extremely vague, and as maninthestreet notes, many of us have the same problem. The investigations sound extremely thorough.

Hospitals are very busy places, and sometimes things do not happen in the most logical order. If you speak to your GP, they will be able to co ordinate the various reports and decide on the best step to take next (if any).

I don't see why you have reason for a 'rant' as such. If you don't like it, BP do an excellent health screening service for approx £300.
    Gone ... or have I?

Re the symptoms which I know are vague. The complaint I was referred for was totally ignored,as I said . The guy who saw me latched on to something else which ,as I also said,( and said to him as well) was already known about but he seemed to be like a dog with a bone . Also why discharge me from the Clinic .when the BP/Heart Monitor and Echo results were still outstanding .
I don't think your suggestion of a private alternative is particularly helpful .
Do you get the health screening at any of their Filling Stations?

Talk to your GP, ask them to explain the results and everything else you want to know very simply and thoroughly so you can understand.
If you have a complaint about the hospital treatment contact the hospital's PALS service.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Thanks Errata .I'll give the Cardiologist a while to get her report back to my GP and do what you suggest then . Thx again.

Sounds as if you have been very thoroughly investigated on the basis of extremely vague symptoms. I second the plan of seeing your GP once he/she has all the results from your various investigations.

Warfarin is regularly prescribed for an irregular heartbeat so this wouldn't need overseeing by a Consultant. Your GP should be able to manage this and you will also have regular checks to make sure that you are taking the correct dosage. Speak to your GP once he/she has all the results back from the hospital who should be able to put together all the pieces and give you a clearer explanation.
