DWP Job Offer...but I didnit attend the interview?!

I see the thread has been well and truely hijacked!!
Just to update you all....
The DWP didn't call me back on Fri. I haven't phoned them again since as I have been really really busy (dissertation + two essays = nightmare) and I don't think I can be bothered to point out the mistake to them. I'm just ignoring it as I know its a mistake, so therefore its probably not worth pointing it out, and as have previous posters have suggested, making someones job more difficult!
An interesting point to mention....a family friend who is high up in HR for the civil service said to go along with the job offer and see how far it gets me. They used to work for the DWP and claimed that because the recruitment is outsourced (something to do with Shared Sevices Resourcing or something) then the office I was placed in would not realise the mistake and probably never find out due to the large number of employees which pass through. For the record, I'm not going to go along with this suggestion as I don't feel it is right. However it is interesting that this was suggested my someone in the civil service...0 -
In all likelihood your family friend is right, its a sad fact that the processes used to externally recruit in DWP are severely lacking and lots of good experienced people get sifted out even before the opportunity to show their skills off at interview."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

so your going to turn down the oppurtunity of a good job in this climate where there are not many jobs going because it doesnt feel right
1. you got offered the job
2. they obviousley feel your skills matched the job criteria
3. maybe they didnt find anyone whilst interviewing so went with the next best person
if it were me i would accept the job and work hard and proove to them that i was the best person for the job so if it did emerge it was a mistake i would be able to get through on my own merit for hard work

I can see what you're saying, however the point is I have not been offered a job. I didn't attend the assessment centre of the interview, yet I received a letter stating "thank you for attending the interview, you have been successful". This points towards an error as they are not offering me a job on the basis of my skills from the application, but on the basis of the interview which I did not attend. If you think how many letters they send out a day, they're bound to ake a mistake at some point.0 -
I don't know for sure, but I THINK that up to EO, the recruitment is done in-house. The HEO test (called Siftability) is outsourced, to a private sector company called Capita. I took that test, along with another for TSols (also a 'siftability' run by Capita) over 2 weeks ago and have heard nothing about either. So much for private sector recruiters being more efficient.
However, I digress. OP, I don't think the EO or AO vacancies are outsourced and I don't think you have a job. You may as well either just ignore it or, if you really want to work for DWP, start applying. There are still lots of vacancies coming up.:idea:0 -
If you are not going to take the job and you have a conscience why dont you contact them just to say you think you have had a letter in error and then they can try and sort out who the letter should have been sent to, then that person can take the job!!!! NO BRAINER really.0

Please let them know rcool80, the successful applicant could still be waiting for that letter.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Hi rcool80.
From what I have experienced in the application process for DWP you would receive a letter first and then, when a vacancy is actually available, you would receive a phone call letting you know when and where work begins. Even if the letter was intended for you, without your details (refs/CRB forms/etc.), it is unlikely they would ever get round to giving you a phone call to offer you work (but not impossible apparently!). If they ever do grace you with a phone call then I would take that opportunity to say "thank you very much, this such an honour considering my absense at interview, but I'll see you Monday".
Like you, my conscience wouldn't allow me to fool them and just take the job, but I would still ring them again just to make sure that your letter was not intended for someone else. There is the possibility that your name has been put to someone else's interview score and thus that person has ended up with zero?? I would ring just to ensure this isn't the case.
But I wouldn't fret over it.. If that were true I'm sure the other person would have queried it by now... Best to get cracking on the dissertation and essay as they are much more important right now!

I phoned the DWP, explained the mistake to them, and the woman said she'll look into it. I've done my bit now so its up to them to sort it out!
I'm considering applying for another job with the DWP but after this episode I'm not too sure....0 -
Have you heard anything more on this?
